What did you get done this weekend? Merged posts version
I had a semi-productive and frustrating weekend (I'm calling it over now because I'm going to be a couch potato after church watching football.. lol)
I'll start with a problem. -- I started my truck and let it run for about half an hour while I was working on the bedside to top off the battery and just to encourage me by hearing it purr.. lol Later, after finishing the bedside work I was doing... I wanted to take it out someplace more picturesque than my curb and get a picture of it. Unhappy me.... cranks and cranks and does not fire. (?!?) It has a stock hei (coil in the cap) distributer. Is this, or some component therein, likely my culprit? I can't think of anything else that would just up and fail with no prior symptoms. It is definatly getting gas and I would think that any mechanical brekage would have been obvious during the long warm up run earlier in the day. Anyway... here are the before nad afters on the bedside.. the truck is still a Billy-Bob special .. but improvements are being made.

Re: Miss the WIGDTWE threads... lol
Looking good!
On the frustration part: Removed the engine and transmission from the donor truck, got it on the engine stand to start cleaning it up. Now getting ready to send it off to the machine shop, as it's in dire need of work. Did a compression check and I am not tremendously happy. I am pulling the heads and intake off today to see what's what. 101lbs of compression across most cyls. 78lbs on cyl #7. I wanted to install the sway bar on my chassis, got it powercoated, new brackets and bushings, but ECE screwed up in shipping and I won't have my frame mounting brackets until tomorrow. I am sick of this. Last edited by FormerMember; 10-16-2005 at 09:35 AM. |

~~ nad ~~ dang dyslexic fingers.....
I have one more dent to get out of that bedside... It's right behind the wheel below the trim line. It's a fairly smooth dent so I think I can fix it with a minimum of filler, but I'm waiting for the wd-40 to do it's magic on the bolts holding the lower fender well thingy on so I can get behind it and hammer it out.

Re: Miss the WIGDTWE threads... lol
I said heck with Katrina cleanup. I am mostly caught up anyways, but I decided Saturday was relax and get dirty on the 70 day. I cleaned up and tested out the new seats I'm going to be using. All the power and fancy stuff works great. Don't know what I am going to use heated seats for in Mississippi, but I got them .
Finished cleaning up the floorboard and painted it with Eastwood stuff. I probably should have waited, but when I went to move it, the truck ran out of gas.....so out came the original, crap filled original tank. I have the blazer tank already mounted, I had just been waiting for the gas to run out of the thing. Now I can finish the cab area. Weld up the cast neck hole, clean and repaint the inside. I may get more done later today, just depends on the honey-do lists

Re: Miss the WIGDTWE threads... lol
I probably shouldn't have burried the question in the post.. lol
Is there an faq or info about stock HEI distributers? I suddenly, with no prior symptoms, have no spark at all.

What did you do this weekend
I got my tunes back, I was on the floor moving AC duct around and the radio would come on and off. I was just thinking crap , Im gonna have to pull this all out and find a short on the wire. Just as I finished stressing over that PLINK I got hit in the head with a fuse, yea baby, the holder was broke. Used pliers to pull the wires down, got a new fuse holder from Parts store and back in business!!

Re: What did you do this weekend
I had to work both days, but spent some time after in the garage building a storage area above one of my garage doors. I have 11 foot cielings and a 7 foot door on one side.

Re: What did you do this weekend
I painted my new spindles and some other suspension parts with POR15. Painted my new calipers, rotors and drums with VHT. Yippee..
Had the lovely experience of changing the spark plugs on my Galant V6...the intake manifold completely covers the back the plugs so it has to be removed. Ugh. |

Re: What did you do this weekend
well,,,
sat. i went to the truckin' nats here in phx. the show was pretty good though not as big as previous yrs. the weather was really good. if i can figure out how to post pics then i will for anyone interested. then on sunday the wife was wanting to park the armada back in the garage so i decided to start to try to finish mounting my new trans. (700r4). then i decided to either use the wrong bolts or strip out the mount (--%%^^&&) if any one knows what the bolts sizes are for the mount & feel likes sharing - it would be much appreciated. so after that i decided to just go ahead & mount the cab back on the frame. so i gathered all my friends (found out that i seem to only have 6) which was barely enough to get the job done. but all in all it went back on fairly smooth. actually didn't damage anything in the process (wwhheeww) so know the wife is happy & the world can once again continue! now that the armada is back in the garage!!! (yyaahhoooo!!!) all in all it wasn't tooo bad of a weekend. |

Re: What did you do this weekend
Idly bid on a set of Mickey Thompson valve covers on Ebay not expecting to win em and I did, got to wait 9 to 15 days to get em over here and then need to clean em up, get some nice shiny oil fillers and breathers etc and get em on. Not something you see often here in the UK, not bad for less than fifty dollars.

I removed a stump, got the furnace running, bolted my front crossmember back onto the frame, and painted the control arm shafts. Not too bad, considering I didn't do any of this stuff on Sunday, just Fri and Sat. Now if I can just get the rest of the front suspension parts painted this week while the temps are still high!

Got my power steering pump changed out. The bearing was going out on the old one, and now I'm going to have to either replace the seals or buy a complete new steering box. Took the truck out for a spin just to make sure we got everything back together right. On the way home, I had so guy get pissed that I was "cruising" home, so he went to pass... Needless to say he had to earn it! haha
