I don't know too much about tranny's. I just read an ad on craigslist that says "350 Tansmission with Overdrive"
I emailed the guy to ask him, but wanted to ask here, what tranny could this be? Does he mean TH350 or a tranny for a 350 SBC??? confused... |

he probably means a TH350.... but there's no such animal as a TH350 with overdrive. He has no clue what he's talking about.

I agree with Andy. Find out what year it is, if the guy knows. Possibly a 700r4? 200r4? if its older. If he tells you its a new model who knows!

he may be talking about a th350C, which has a lock up convertor, acording to this article, its like having 3.5 gears, i think they made these from like 1980-1984

just got off the phone with the guy. I think chris71 is right. The guy called it a 350-T. It is from a 1980 2wd chevy truck. He said it has the four prong adapter that you run wire to a switch for the overdrive. He said it was just rebuilt with new torque converter and shift kit. It sounds like a good deal, but I think i'm gonna pass.
My situation is I have a th350 but it needs a rebuild, so I was looking for something like this that was already rebuilt with an overdrive. But it sounds like the tranny this guy is selling is not that desireable?? What do you guys think? He also said he has a 350 turbo for sale. Is that a th350 just like mine? If so, I may be interested in that because he said it is new from GM with 5000 miles on it. He is also selling this for $100. So that would be cheaper for me to pick up vs having mine rebuilt. What do you think? thanks - josh |

me personaly, i would probably stay away from a th350c, extra wiring, will need new brake switch, possible vaccum switch, the lock up converters generate more heat, so additional cooler would be a good cost, unless you do a lot of highway driving, probably nor worth the extra dough.
that gm one for 100 clams sound like a good deal, you figure a tranny shop will charge you at least 500 clams for a rebuild, i just had a street/strip one built for 800 clams. i would inquire if it came out of a v6 car because these tranny's have less amount of clutches in them than a v8, it makes them weaker. i would definitly go and look at it if you are interested, hopefully it will have a converter, because one of those will run you $100 to 200, inspect it carefully if you can, i just looked at a th350 that my friend was selling and apon inspection it had a hairline crack from where the cooling lines are all the way on top of the bellhousing to the other side. good luck whatever you decide.

As far as I know that trans should be the same thing as a regular TH350. I would grab it and hook up the lock-up for some great highway mileage!

hmmm, I think I'm gonna go with the th350 and save myself some money with not having to rebuild mine. I wont be doing a lot of highway driving. He said it came out of a 70 c10.

Well, the 350C ended up being a 700r4. It would be nice to have that, but I already have a new TCI torque converter and transgo shift kit ready to be installed in the th350. Plus I was looking at the prices for the TC and shiftkit for the 700r4 and they were a lot more, plus I would have to buy the harness for the lockup.
I think I have made my mind up. Thanks for all your help. I have definitely learned a thing or two with this post. thanks! josh |
