Fender Emblems
OK - so I see these nice shiny new fender emblems in the catalog and figure that this is something I can afford and, even with my limited mechanical skills, must be a snap to put in. Well I got them last week and this past Sunday, thought I'd just pop them on. Well - not so easy. If I hold the flashlight just right, I can kinda see one nut on the inside of each fender and completely out of reach of any wrench. When I bought these, I didn't expect that I would have to disassemble the entire clip to put them on.
It's a 71 GMC; the fender emblems are just ahead of the door. If anyone out there has any tips on how to do this, I'd really appreciate hearing from you. Chuck |

Re: Fender Emblems
Well, they ARE easier to get off when the fender is in your lap....
Drop the inner fender and you should be able to get to them, if you can't get to them any other way.

Re: Fender Emblems
Drop the inner fenders or mark the bolt position really well and loosen/remove the back fender bolts(under the cowl, etc) and get enough room to change the emblems. Hope this helps

Re: Fender Emblems
I just used some good epoxy on the studs of my new emblems, I roughed up the chrome on the studs first so they would grab the epoxy better. I didnt want to take a chance of messing up my new paint by wrenching around the fenders, (Im a chicken) I did the same thing on my 69 about 14 years ago and they are still there.

Re: Fender Emblems
they make these little clips , i call them barrel clips, they have burs on them that push into the hole and the studs slide into the clip holding the emblem in place! i have used these on all the emblems on my jimmy with no problem

Re: Fender Emblems
maybe look at the new ones, get an idea to where the "studs" are located on the used ones - drill them out, pop the old ones off and then pop the new one on with some of the recommendations from previous posts - just an idea.
