295/50/15's on Back... 235/60/15's or 245/60/15's on the Front?

OK, I just bought this 72 Cheyenne Super that has 15x8 fronts and 15x10 backs, What are your suggestions for Front and Back tire sizes if I want to go with the BF Goodrich Radial TA's?

I was thinking that because of the 15x10's wheels on the back, that I would go with the 295/50/15's. As for the front tires, I am not sure if I should go with the 235/60's with a bit of a stagger or the 245/60's that are the exact same height as the 295/50's.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated before I start spending the money for the new tires.

They will look goofy if you use those. I have 295/50/15's in the back and 265/50/15 in the front. They are terribly hard to find.

I appreciate your input. Why would you say it would look goofy? I have heard many others state that they would use 235 or 245's on the front. Would it look goofy because of the height or because of the width?

I'm wondering if I am hurting myself by trying to stay with the BFG Radial TA's? I just want to get the best tires for my 15x8 Fronts and 15x10 Backs.

BFG's are great tires. You just need to know what OD you want.

A 265/50 is actually shorter than a 235/60 and even moreso than the 245/60, but they are much wider...

I can't find my stinkin flash drive with my other pictures after I lowered the truck. I love the 15" wheels because they actually have some sidewall. But you can't get 50 series tires anymore, next set of rims will be 18". 265/50/15's fit the best they are 1.5" shorter and fit on a 8.5" rim real well. I got lucky and found one pair of cobra coopers for them. BFG used to make them too, they only make a drag tire in that size now.

I would recommend going with the 235's. What I have run into over many different staggered set-ups over the years is that if your front and rear tire are the same height, you can easily end up with the front tire being slightly taller (when mounted) if the front rim a size too narrow for the tire or the rear rim is a bit too wide.

In other words, if you put the 295's on a 10" rim and put the 245's on a 8" rim, there is a chance the front tire would install a little taller. You may put the same 245 tire on a 8.5" or 9" rim on the front, and it may be fine.

I ran into this on my shop truck. I put 275/60's on a 8" rim and a 235/70 on a factory 5.5" rim on the front. Both tires are supposed to be 28" tall, but the front were noticeably taller on the narrow rims. Luckily my front tires were already on the truck, so when I bought new tires for the front, I went with 215/70's and it looked good then.

If you go with a front that is slightly shorter, you usually don;t have to worry about that happening.

FWIW, I would go with 275/60 and 245/60 with your wheels and it would look pretty good. The 26.6" tall 295's look short on a truck. The 28" tall 275's with stretch out to around 27.5" on the 10" and will look better, IMO.

This was one of my trucks with 255/60 and 275/60 BFG's , but I only had a 8" rear rim, which made the 255/60 - 275/60 pretty close to the same height.

Thanks for the information. I am currently leaning towards the 235/60 fronts because they will be just a bit shorter than the backs. I really cannot stand it when my front tires are taller than my backs.

So far, the 295/50's and 235/60's are winning.

BTW, here is the pic of it with the Mickey Thompson ET Streets on the back and Nitto's on the front.

That is a slick looking truck! It will look much better with a shorter rear tire, IMO. What size is the current front tire on there?

Im running 255/60/15 in front and 275/60/15 in back,
but all four of my wheels are 15x8.5
lowered 5 in in back and 2.5 in front.

Someone else told me that I should run 275/60's on the back, but I wasn't sure how that would work on the 15x10 wheel? I thought it would be more stretched than I would prefer. Thoughts?
