1972 Chevy Short Box W/ 2001 LS1 Build Thread

I never really thought about starting a build thread on here, I spend most of my time trying to help you all out on the Photoshop pages haha. My project truck was left to me after my Uncle passed away. It was the topic of many conversations we sharred, going over every little detail of what we wanted to see in our dream truck. We never had a chance to work on it together, but roughly a year and a half after he passed (October 2008), I started in on Ol' Green.

Below is a list of things I've bought or done to the truck so far.

The project has been on hold since Aug. 2009 when my daughter was born, but as im gearing up to finish it, I thinks its a good time to start this

-2001 Corvette LS1 w/ 4L60E Trans
-Truck was stripped to bare frame
-Frame was shortened & Sand blasted
-Many parts were order while the chop was going on, including but not limited to...
CPP C-notch, CPP Extreme Cross Member, CPP Shock Relocator Kit, CPP Tranny Cross Member, CPP Perch Mounts, LS1 Stand Alone Wiring Harness, Fuel Cell W/ Built In Electric Fuel Pump & Sender Unit, Polyurethane Everything, Cross Drilled & Slotted rotors, Belltech Drop Spindles, All New Tierod Ends & Balljoints & New Calipers Painted Corvette Red

- The Frame Was Painted Gloss Black & Parts Were Installed
- I knocked all the rivets out of my frame & used grade 8 bolts in their place.
- Engine was mounted as far back as possible without touching the firewall in my attempt to have a balanced truck. I'm also going to mount the Battery in the rear and the Fuel Cell sits behind the Rear Diff.

Re: 1972 Chevy Short Box W/ 2001 LS1

Since these pictures were taken, I had a change of heart when it came to suspension so I ditched the airbag setup and went with Coil Drop Springs. Today I had my Autobody guy come out to give me a quote on repairing the couple holes in the floor and replacing the rockers and cab supports and smoothing over the Firewall. I`ll keep you updated on the progress. Oh i also rebuilt the Rear Diff. and installed an Eaton TruTrac Locker.

Re: 1972 Chevy Short Box W/ 2001 LS1

Sorry guys... this build is gearing up again. I lost access to my shop when we sold our farm so i pieced the truck back together and it was on hold for awhile. The cab will be going to my body guy in the next couple months to have the firewall smoothed, the holes in the floor fixed, and get new rockers panels and cab mounts. I just ordered some headers for the LS1 and if they fit, i'll be taking care of the exhaust shortly. Once thats done and the cab is back on the frame for good, i'll tackle the wiring and fuel lines.

Im waiting to her back from CPPJeff about a possible discount code and then i'll be ordering a drop down battery box so i can relocate the battery to just behind the cab on the passenger side. Im also going to order new shocks, sway bars, and possibly a rear disc brake kit.

Re: 1972 Chevy Short Box W/ 2001 LS1

New headers are in and look great. They were about $200 shipped to Canada.

http://www.ebay.ca/itm/LS1-LS6-Stain...item1e668fa615

They will fit with out too much trouble, but i will need to set my engine back roughly 2" so that means new adapter plates. There is lots of room for it and i dont have much else roughed in yet. Im also thinking the farther back the engine is the better for balance etc.. Im going to order these

http://tpiparts.net/inc/sdetail/16936

They're adjustable so i can get it in the perfect spot.

Re: 1972 Chevy Short Box W/ 2001 LS1

Can you leave the engine in it's current location,... and just move the frame stands forward?
You will still need new engine plates,... but it will keep your engine out of the firewall.

That had crossed my mind, but there is more than enough room to slide it back and I like the looks of it. Also it'll have more weight on the rear... A little more haha

I'd clear or paint that ls engine. Aluminum corrodes. Great looking build, keep that engine looking good.
