What'd you get done? AFC-NFC Championship edition

Looks like the regular thread "starters" are busy so I'll get us going this week.

What did you get done this weekend?

I had a very good parts shopping weekend.
Scored the following:
Complete suicide door hinge kit, hinges, bear claw latches, and all the hardware for my '50 Chevy ($100.00)
Spindles and lower control arms (stock) that are going on an S-10 chassis under my '50 Chevy ($Free)
A sweet freshly built Rochester 2-barrel carb for my '50 Chevy ($Trade)
Pair of brand new in the box Howe D-52 Calipers ($20.00)

The coolest thing I acquired is a 22mm gun barrel from an F-15 Fighter Jet. I'm not sure what I'll do with this freebie but it's cool!

Did absolutely nothing this weekend except enjoying a port visit to Kuala Lumpur Malaysia. Nice to be off the boat for the weekend

Re: What'd you get done? AFC-NFC Championship edition

fixed a few things on the truck to get it ready for onspection at the end of this month. now my horn works , and with a real button on the steering wheel, and not one mounted to the dash, which i conveniently removed right after i got my sticker last year lol.

and now my emergency brake works, only one side, but who cars, it holds and the truck dont move if you tap the gas.

only thing left now is aim the headlights but some of them are rigged too from the previous owner so thats a task in itself.

now i can get back to doing the bodywork so i can throw some paint on it! hopefully that will be within a few weeks.

Re: What'd you get done? AFC-NFC Championship edition

Got the front clip put back on the burb, radiator installed, all fluids pre-filled, pretty much everything in the engine bay connected and ready to fire the engine. Yanked the fuel tank, drained the 20+ gallons of very old fuel (why are the tanks always full when you have to pull them?). Got the battery in, and connected, and started checking interior and lighting systems out. Looks like everything will try to function except the passenger side door windows and the headlights. All four windows are slow, but that's the mid-80's power window blues. Will address those at a later date. Headlights shouldn't be a huge problem. Tail lights and blinkers all work just fine.

I watched my Bears lose, then I drowned my sorrows...

As far as truck stuff, I put in a new clutch fan because the old one nearly fell apart. Runs like a new truck! The old fan must've been slowly falling apart for awhile causing weird little vibrations and shakes that I could never track down. Well they are finally tracked down.

Re: What'd you get done? AFC-NFC Championship edition

I finally got a chance to work on my 77 again. I sent the e3 ECE back to Ride Tech a couple months back. They did an update to it and sent it back right before the holidays. I managed to get the ECU and display re-installed last week.

This week I installed the ride height sensors again. Since two of them were broken when I took it apart, I spent time trying to ensure that they are mounted properly. I accomplished that, but it took some time.

This week I will hook the linkage back up and see how it works.

Re: What'd you get done? AFC-NFC Championship edition

I spent mine meeting a fellow board member bigblock73 (Jeff) and getting some top quality parts for my suburban. I wish it would've been a little warmer than -5 so we could actually bs for a while but it was nice to meet you nontheless. Then on Sunday I watched the Packers make their way to Super Bowl 45 by beating the Bears. Good times

It was good to meet you too Adam. We'll have to meet up at BTT50's or Car Craft and hang out.

Glad you liked the parts. Hope the posters work out good too.

Re: What'd you get done? AFC-NFC Championship edition

I ordered some parts for the dually & have been waiting to get them in. They arrived today only to not be what I expected..... It seems the LMC descript vs. the catalog pic was confusing/misleading. I thought I was getting a new reproduction 89-91 GMC Burb grille (chrome/charcoal grey) sans the grille ornament (meaning no emblem mounting pad).

I did get a chrome/charcoal grille..... w/a huge x large freaking grille emblem pad right in the center (100% not what I wanted). Apparently they only offer the grille w/o the grille ornament (meaning no emblem mounting pad) on the chrome/brite treatment grille. I was bummed to say the least. I really wanted to freshen the front end up.

Besides that, my order did include new inner rear bumper brackets, bumper bolts, front door panel trim plate (door pull delete trim-plates), & a front air dam for under the bumper so I get to install some new stuff.

SCOTI,... try to find a GM grille for your dually.
They are pricey,... but it's the only way you will be happy.
Might as well get the headlight doors also.

I had about $350 in my grill, headlight doors, and turnsignal lenses,... in my old crew cab. I'm not sure if they are still available from GM or not.
Oh yeah,... get a new grille emblem while your at it.

There lies the issue..... I don't care for the Chevy grilles nor do I like the GMC & bowtie grille emblems on these. I've seen a few images here & there of what appeared to be a factory looking GMC grille w/o the large ping-pong table platform for the emblem (ok, slight exaggeration). I started searching for this & found that LMC had something similar. Unfortunately, they only come w/an 'all chrome' finish (another thing I dislike).

I wanted a OE appearing chrome surround w/the charcoal grey portion between the upper/lower light lenses & for the grille; & no emblem. I did order the headlight bezels too so I'm going to research options. I could do a t-rex billet grille but I've never seen one in person & some of those billet grilles look 'clunky'.

Got the rusty cab bolts out so I can install (temporarily) and get the lft side A pillar back where it is supposed to be. Then more fitting, welding and sanding. Then figuring out a color.

Watched my Steelers beat the Jets, and figured out I need a radiator. Mine finally bit the dust. Same with my power steering pump.

Went to a friends house by our local state police post and put some rounds through his new DPMS AR-10 and my SKS. Always a good time to kill some paper! Other than that, I ordered the rest of the parts to do my top end rebuild on the 454.

I just bought a house with a 3 car garage so hopefully I can get back to working in my square again. Have a baby coming in August so not sure how much I'll be able to do after that. But hey, it's running and driving at this moment.

X2 on the billet grille in the original 89-91 GMC only frame.^^^
I'm not a big fan of the Chevy billet grille version.

Agreed.... Definitely no Chevy billet version for me. GMC only....

If I only had a source to help secure a niiiiiiiiiiiiiiice quality GMC grille (cough Jonboy, cough), I'd send the LMC version back. My next step was to find a possible billet inset & hack the LMC piece if I have too.
