Front Suspension Crossmember Removal - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I have unbolted everything for the upper part of my front suspension (side bolts to the crossmember, upper ball joint, etc.) and there is absolutely nothing holding the crossmember to the frame - yet it still won't budge.

I've hammered it, chiseled it, soaked it in WD-40, tried to fit a puller on it. Nothing works.

Any ideas on how to remove this thing?

Did you get the 6 bolts inside on the bottom of the frame rails... there is a total of 7 bolts on each side

No, I don't need the entire assembly out, just the crossmember circled in red.

are you removing the "crossmember" or just the upper control arm? The "crossmember" is the huge 3 foot long piece of steel that holds both left and right suspension as well as the engine into the frame.

That would be the confusion, my lack of terms! Sorry about that. Yeah, I just need to remove the upper control arm, and it's stuck due to the "thing" circled in red in the picture, which I was referring to as the crossmember

Do you have the ball joint seperated?It and the tie rod end would cause binding.

Yeah, everything is removed. Ball joint is separated and the bushings are removed from the upper control arm, etc.

Do you have any pics?
It must be rusted to the studs.

Is that pic you posted about your actual truck? Try some good penetrating oil and soak those studs over night. You may have to put some heat on the control arm to get it to break loose from the studs.
