Re: Anybody running glasspacks anymore????

Yep
Have them on my 72 GMC 350
24"
suprisingly quiet until you get on it.
then it makes the sound I like.
doesn't sounds like everything else going down the road.

Re: Anybody running glasspacks anymore????

On a stock 350 I'm very fond of them. I ran 18" glass packs on Old Yeller till the rebuild. After the rebuild I put on some "12 glass packs but with the additional 150 hp they were way, way to loud. So, I put on some Hooker Max Flow mufflers which are essentially glass packs with a lot more packing. That toned things down a lot and still sounds great. I know a lot of people like Flowmasters but I have personally never liked how they sound.

Re: Anybody running glasspacks anymore????

I ran 30" glasspacks for many years, and I liked the sound until they got too rotted out. Nice and mellow, no crackle or pop. The replacements I was shown had a restrictive (narrowed) core that I didn't like. I was able to get a pair of lightly used Magnaflows from a board member, and I'm very happy with them.

Re: Anybody running glasspacks anymore????

I have some cheapies on my 307 but am ordering some 18" Cherry Bombs to go along with the 327 I'm building. It'll be near stock, but was a 300hp option motor, so... I can't imagine anything other than glasspacks on an older vehicle, Flowmasters sound too new to me. I had Flowmasters running on a 'built' 350 in my '68 back in the '90's never quite sounded as good as the glasspacks I took off, but I couldn't afford to replace them again.

Re: Anybody running glasspacks anymore????

since your talking about different I was thinking of just putting a couple of baffles inside 2 1/2" pipe on my next exhaust..when you look under the truck it would appear to be nothing but a couple of straight pipes and down spouts.....

what do you think??

Re: Anybody running glasspacks anymore????

I'm running Brockman steelpacks on my latest truck. They are 2 inch from manifolds back to the bumper, 24 inch packs. I like them because they are still handmade individually by Brock himself right here in the good old USA.

It felt good sending my money to them. Ordering a pair of mufflers from Brock means a lot more to me than ordering a pair from some worldwide mega company.
Thanks Tx Firefighter!!!!!! I just ordered a pair of 30 inchers in 2" with 2" pencil tips. After watching almost every exhaust video on youtube I still liked yours the best.

Thanks again!!

It felt good giving your business to someone who really appreciates it doesn't it ? As I get older I am, more and more, seeking out folks like that. I'm tired of Walmart mentality and just being a number.

Amen to that. Its high time those of us who feel that way start voicing it. I know its got me in trouble more than once but if you aint willing to fight for what you believe in than how much do you really believe it?

I loved talking to the older lady who anwsered the phone. I thought she was going to hand me off to someone else but then she asks what engine I have and what size pipes I want. I was blown away at how much this lady knew. Totally awesome. I will certainly be ordering more stuff from them. Maybe a case of fuzzy dice!!

Re: Anybody running glasspacks anymore????

I run 30 in. glass packs on both my trucks. The 70 sounds great, good sounding rumble when you stand out side but not noisey going down the road. My 58 is almost too quiet.

Re: Anybody running glasspacks anymore????

I ran them up until a few days ago on my 85,Changed to 3" stainless dauls with H pipe and Pypes Violators.
Ran them on my 93 for about a month but they were too quiet with an x pipe so the were removed in favor of cases.
Generally I like the sound of glasspacks.
