Drivetrain vs Bodywork

Getting ready to dig in on my truck and I'm not sure where I want to go first, I'm leaning towards doing drive train first to keep it enjoyable so I dont l lose interest.

What are your guys thoughts, Drivetrain or Paint and Body first?

- has 350/TH300 in right now (have 454/TH400 to put in)

vs.

- Body is multi colored right now (have leads on a welder to repair minor body work and prep for paint (truck is still driveable at the moment))

I'm on a fairly limited budget so I will tackle one of the two this year and the other hopefully next year

Drivetrain first so there no chance to having to redo bodywork from damage of drivetrain work. ( spills, dents, etc )

do all mechanical stuff suspension and drivetrain first is the way i prefer to do it

body work looks great but does not inspire you to work on the drivetrain.. drivetrain looks bad @$$ and makes you want to drive it with a steering wheel and a 5 gallon bucket.

Def drivetrain first without a doubt better quality work towards the end.

If it looks like crap and runs/drives to match, it won't be long before you either dump it or take it all the way down to the ground and start from scratch.

I always take the old power train out clean up the area paint etc put the upgraded powertrain, suspension, exaust, wheels test and tune then after take wheels back off put crappy wheels on and send the vehicle for paint and body then interior shop once detailed wheels go back on and time to cruise.

just spray it in cheap primer ($43 at NAPA) to get it in one color it will sand off easy then open the hood

Have all the drivetrain running nothing worse then having to push cars around. Plus we get to burn the tires off when your not around. Just kidding we fire people for that. Unless its a super high dollar engine etc then I would take it out.

Yeah, engine/drivetrain/brakes first. You paint a reliable ride.....you don't make one out of a finish painted truck, despite what they do on TV.
