Re: 2.02 heads on my 307?
You might have valve size problems with those heads on that block, that is the valves are actually too big to fit the smaller cylinder bore of the 307, I could be completely wrong though, someone else will chime in on this for sure.

Re: 2.02 heads on my 307?
what size chambers do you have on the 2.02 heads? 2.02 valves in 76 cc heads are great but with 64 chamber heads tend to bring your compression up.

Re: 2.02 heads on my 307?
If I am correct the 2.02 valves will clear but they will be so close to the cylinder wall that the intake valve will be shrouded and a 1.94 valve will flow better.

Everyone told me Vortecs? so why would you put 2.02's on it, bigger is not always better, right ?

Re: 2.02 heads on my 307?
Do not use 2.02's on a small bore block there is a strong possibility of contact of the valve face with the bore.

Re: 2.02 heads on my 307?
You're going to to have valve "shrouding" which basically means the valve will be so close to the edge of the cylinder wall that the flow will be interupted.
The heads used in the Super Chevy article above are Edelbrocks E-Tec heads which are basicaly just an aluminum verson of the Vortecs. They still have the same 1.94/1.55 valves like the GM peices. The aluminum heads might give you a slighter increase in power over the cast iron heads, but not enough for the money spent. I would say with a mild 262 cam like used above, a set of GM Vortecs, and Edelbrock intake and a good carb, you would still very well be in the 300 hp mark if not just a little higher.

Re: 2.02 heads on my 307?
You can run 202's on a 307 with no issues. The bore is not as small as most people think. The real problem is your going to be running bigger valves for a setup that really dosent need it. Now if your were running around a 480 or so lift then i could see bigger valves but for your setup i would not spend the money. But thats just my .02 cents and its your money so the real decision is up to you.

Re: 2.02 heads on my 307?
I built a nice running 307 once and I ran 1.94s.I don`t think you`d see a benefit going with more valve.I`d stay with 1.94s.I think 2.02s will make a bad combination.

Re: 2.02 heads on my 307?
2.02's will be overkill. You would probably be better with the 1.94's. It's all about the combination! Bigger isn't always better, unless it's your bank account! My .02
