What do you think, Cheyenne Super clone?

Listed on BAT as 1972 Cheyenne Super. Seller states is original Super but I believe it's a clone. It's a very nice truck but I think it should be listed as clone.Originally yellow per description (and yellow paint visible around door plate), SPID has red paint code, no cargo light. A lot of red flags? https://bringatrailer.com/listing/19...omment-9458585

Re: What do you think, Cheyenne Super clone?

You pretty well nailed it, there will always be doubts about it being a super with the inconsistencies.

GeorgieB commented about the lack of cargo lamp as well...

Doesn't seem to have the dual exhaust hanger brackets that would have come on factory duals...

I was not aware that any truck came with duals from the factory.

Yah, that was nitpcking....

1972 Big Blocks are what I have known to have factory duals. I don't know that small blocks ever had factory duals..

Here's where someone was selling the brackets
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=125700

Here's another where they were selling 68-71 big block dual exhaust bracket...
https://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vbo....php?p=8944767

So maybe It was a big block only thing. I had a 1972 big block hat had all the brackets... truck in my avatar photo...

Pretty sure all big blocks came with factory dual exhaust, in that era.

Never had or knew anyone with factory big block. All mouse motors or 6 bangers for me. Learn something new everyday.

Re: What do you think, Cheyenne Super clone?

Aftermarket front sway bar and sway bar mounting brackets. Shown on pictures of receipts from brothers, but swaybar is listed on SPID.

You wouldn't take off the factory swaybar brackets from the frame to put the aftermarket on.

Re: What do you think, Cheyenne Super clone?

It's a nice truck, but for the way the paint was done, the condition of the wiring harness and condition of the undercarriage in general, I'd say it's already maxed out on price.

I definitely see a lot of rattle can over rust on the undercarriage and under the hood. The interior paint is pretty bad too. Those kind of shortcuts make me wonder about what we can't see. I would agree it's maxed out on price. The only thing that makes if worth it is that it's a short wheelbase and A/C cab. I think it's going to need a lot of work.

Re: What do you think, Cheyenne Super clone?

As far as originally being a super, it is also missing the front fender baffles between the rear of the front fender and the door that supers had. Easily omitted during a restoration but the missing bed light is the most suspect.

Stabilizer shown on SPID but looks to be added vs being original.

Missing shields between bumper and bed though SPID shows originally coming with the chrome bumper.

Likely re-created SPID to match truck.

I just assume everything on BAT is a forgery unless proven otherwise. I have seen more faked trucks on that site than authentic. Incorrect rivets, reprinted spids, etc, etc.

Well said, and in fact most of the forgeries are really, really poor quality. To the point where I cannot believe that the staff at BAT are unaware.

No black Cheyenne Super interior is correct.

Ok, no more criticism until you can honestly say you looked at every single picture first.

How many? 500+??? My eyes!!

Re: What do you think, Cheyenne Super clone?

I looked at all of them. Clone? Close enough for me at a good price. It is a nice truck. Will it bring "Super" money? Maybe. There is evidently a world of folks out there that don't even know what a 71 or 72 chevy truck looks like.
But, the kicker is, he is trying to sell to a group of people who know what it is supposed to have to be the vehicle advertised. Chevy never made it too easy to tell what you were really buying. Cloning a Super is an expensive
ordeal from what I see. That being said, my opinion doesn't matter but it should fetch at least a normal price of a nice well optioned factory swb truck. It shows to be one of those for sure. Good luck to him.

Re: What do you think, Cheyenne Super clone?

I believe this is a very nice driver truck, original Cheyenne Super, not so much.
Too many pictures showing too many conflicts.

No cargo light
Wrong rear view mirror
Yellow paint showing on cab pics
on and on

Man I wouldn't ever claim my truck to be something it wasn't, and have it scrutinized on here, LOL !!! ( it's nothing but a mut, pieced together just how I want it )

That's the rub here... if it's a mutt say so and people will respect that.

The truck here should have the work 'clone' in the listing, that would put an end to this whole discussion.

Just looked at the listing again and the seller has posted again, but did not address the SPID concerns.

I agree with everyone who posted. Maybe the seller bought it and got scammed and thinks his description is accurate and he is not the scammer.

Re: What do you think, Cheyenne Super clone?

Photo 352. Drivers inner rocker/floor sure looks like it has been patched. So much for sellers comment "Had a couple emailed questions. This truck is an original short bed model truck. It is not a conversion. The sheet metal is all original with no patch work, repaired, or replaced panels."

Photos 388 and 390 Has the pads for the helper springs still attached to the trailing arms, but the springs are not on the frame. That doesn't show up on the SPID

I've looked at all the pictures, not sure why this gets me worked up. It's a nice truck, seller just needs to represent it as it is.

Yes, honesty is always the best policy (for me, anyway). You never have to figure out which person you told which lie to.

Re: What do you think, Cheyenne Super clone?

Here's a funny one. Not sure how accurate this info is...

But in this thread: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...1&postcount=12

Says 513 Flame Red is a GMC only color for 1972, but we already know the truck is a color change and the SPID is a fabrication...
