Rear shock mount stripped. Now what??
Still restoring the frame. The nut just kept turning. I finally removed the rear shocks and this is the results. I had to cut the shock to make room to cut the bolt. Now what?? Both sides. Thanks.

They make a bolt in mount, cut that one off, drill it and install one of these.

Re: Rear shock mount stripped. Now what??
My KYB front shocks came with the extra bolt. I am planning to use them on the rear, they are identical.
Bolt in style, no big deal. |

Re: Rear shock mount stripped. Now what??
Yeah, the smooth part where the shock sits is 5/8''. So you would need a different shock without the steel sleeve or get the correct pin. Years ago I had the same problem with broken pins on my flatbed and I removed the pin pictured and drilled the hole out to 5/8'' all the way through the frame rail and installed a long 5/8'' grade 8 bolt and replaced the shock. I was changing the rear axle anyways from the HO72 to a D70hd

Re: Rear shock mount stripped. Now what??
The bolt should the same as the upper bolt on the front shock. Some simple measurements will confirm this. You can buy those bolts at NAPA. You can cut the bad bolt off and then drill the base of it out so you can bolt a new one in its place.

Re: Rear shock mount stripped. Now what??
Forgot to mention this is a '69 GMC 3/4 ton. If it makes a difference or not. I like the bolt-in type as I can drill a hole. I cant weld and dont know anybody that does. But it wont hurt to drive it to a shop without shocks to have them welded in.
