20'' wheel question

i read a lot of people needing to shave down the front hub so the wheel will fit, i have 6 lug disk/drum set up and from what i understand the boss wheels i want do come in a larger center bore style (boss 313) i want to stick with 6 lug and my truck is low 5.5 front 7.5 rear have 27'' tall tires on it now and they fit perfect 215/70/15 and 235/70 /15 not looking to use spacers just want to order some wheels and tires and bolt them on can anyone help,o and what about staggered vs the same tire all around , the shop wanted me to go with a 255/35/20 in a 4 corners not sure if thats what ill like

It's your truck, so put on whatever sizes you like....

The benefit to the same size on all four corners is that you can rotate the tires and maximize their life. I don't know if you carry a spare, but all same size tires means one spare covers all four corners (good if you have posi).

I'm going to be doing different fronts / rears on the 68 I'm building - but at about the same height. Mine's a toy, so I'm not as concerned.

It's not about what ''the shop'' wants/likes, it should be about what you want/like. Would you run your current 215-70-15 set-up on all 4 corners & still like the look? What 'look' do you like?

Your current set-up is ~27" tall in front & ~28" rear. I'd consider this a common big/little 'look'. It works well because IMO these trucks need a 28" minimum rear tire or they look awkward (regardless of how low they are). Being slighlty wider is also a common trick on the rears to help 'fill things up' better. So 7-8" wide front wheels & 8-10" rears fill the wheel wells up nicely.

As 'bubba353z' stated, not being able to rotate tires isn't a financial deal breaker. I've never owned a vehicle in my 28yrs of driving experience that I rotated the tires on. Every last one of them has had taller diameter rear tires. Worst case scenario was that I went through 4 fronts in the time it took to replace the rears.

I like the look of your truck as is! Gotta love the OE/slammed rides.... How much room do you have to play with now before interference up front?

I didn't mean to come across like the shop is making my decision, I'm looking for technical advise, I meant the shop advised that tire size would work ,I love the look now just thought of changing it up,so I'm looking for answers before I buy something I may even look into a bigger steel wheel 17's, I really have no room to spare up front

I didn't mean to imply the shop was forcing your decision making.

If you like your current look but want to 'update' it, what about using 20" billets w/your current hubcaps....

I agree.
Have delmo fix you up with a set of his "hubcap ready" Centerline wheels.

My '69 is also 5.5/7.5 dropped with 6-lug wheels.
(GM 15x7 and 15x8 ralley wheels)
I'm considering switching to 5-lug for more wheel choices.

more wheel choices lolife!! yours look perfect as is. Are those newer caps on old rallies (I think?) or newer caps on newer truck rallies... (thought there were hub fitmend issues - but I may just be thinkin 60-66). Nice truck lolife.

Snacks, I know everyone else has all said it already - but you tell the shop what you want, you're paying for it! If you like more stock looking rollers, then 15" is fine. if you like the modern 20"ers, go for it. You can't go wrong. If you like Boss wheels go for it. My PERSONAL course (which means nothing) would be to PC yoru current rims black, lost the trim rings, keep the hubcaps, and go with 215(or 225)-75-15 up front (MIGHT be a clearance issue) and then use 235-75-15 out back. Same look, about 2" taller all around.

Yes.
They are the 88-98 centercaps on the old 73-87 4x4 ralleys.

Can someone tell me why people shve down there front hub is it because they are trying to make the wrong wheel fit or to get the center cap to work

Exactly.... The HD (1.25" 1/2 ton brakes) spindle hub is too large for some aftermarket wheel centers (OD of the rotor hub) & the overall length can interfere w/some center-caps.

Your truck is really clean and you nailed the stance perfectly.
Add a set of 20's and you will be set.
The inner fenders up front seem to cause issues with these trucks being dropped so low with just a static drop.
Wheel backspacing will be important, when it comes to getting the wheels to turn, without interference,... inside the fenders.

although mines a 5 lug here is what i did to make the boss 338 fit my truck me and my dad own an automotive shop and did this with our brake lathe. its not a big deal to do it the center bore of the wheel is just to small for the hub.

Your truck looks good, I'm in the same boat. Got the wheels just don't know what size tires. I'm thinking about a 235/55 20 up front and a 245/55 20 in the rear. My wheels are 20x8s all the way around.
