Found abandoned 60/61 GMC Burb 4X4

About 6 weeks ago I was working a case and drove down an lightly traveled alley in an old commercial area. An orange "box" way out behind a tree caught my eye. Looked like a Suburban, but I thought a later model one. Didn't have time to walk out to look at it.

Fast forward..went back today and parked and "trespassed" onto the fenced area to take a closer look. Wow... It is a 60 or 61 GMC factory 4X4 that looks like it was parked a long time ago and left. No tires, but complete including an old CB radio still under the dash. Unfortunately it looks like kids got in the property and smashed ALL the windows.

I looked up the property owner and I am going to stop by his place tomorrow and see if a deal can be worked out.

you can see the orange dot in the picture below.

Thats a nice straight looking burb. Its a shame about the windows, but other than that it looks sweet.

Re: Found abandoned 60/61 GMC Burb 4X4

Well...I tracked down the property owner today. Talked to his son who put his dad on the phone. His father spoke fast, loud and in an over modulated Hispanic accent for a cell phone. The best I could make out is that the Burb is a friend of his. He can't do anything with it. He was asked to park it there for 2 months, about 3 years ago. His friend does not live in town and travels between cities and Mexico. He sees him 3- 4 times a year.

Doesn't know if he wants to sell it but will ask him next time He sees, or talks to him. I explained that it was getting trashed by the "kids" and I would like to get it back on the road if possible before it is damaged too much further. . I gave his son my card and I am going to follow up with a letter and include the color pictures of the damage to the Burb.

My 23 year old son wants it now and my dad offered to make $$$ available if it is for sale. All I need is to get the owner to agree. Will keep you all posted.

Re: Found abandoned 60/61 GMC Burb 4X4

that is in awesome shape, I am so jealous of the condition of trucks you guys in the southwest can pick up. here that truck would be half rotted in the ground after 3 years of sitting without wheels.

I bet if you watch craigslist it will be on there. people always think that if one guy is interested then everyone will be.

I think thats the only engine you could get in a 60-66 GMC, I could be wrong though. good motor.

Well, on the plus side.....it MAY run with little work (and a set of wheels of course). Good luck.

Re: Found abandoned 60/61 GMC Burb 4X4

I dunno GMC's as well; the panel has a 283; but it's a Chevy.. and a '66; this one is obviously pre-64.

Oh man, I hope you can get this. I'd hate to see another 60-61 GMC left to rot. If I know those V-6's, that sucker will fire up after a little tinkering and fresh gas.
