changing rear gears need a little help
I am trying to put in a 3.54 gear set into my 68 gmc 3/4 dana 60 that was orignally 4.11 (4.10) but it seems the 3.54 gear is too big for the carrier, even if I remove every shim the gear seems as though it will not fit.. is it possible that the gear set I bought is for a different type of dana 60, age, type etc etc.. there is a link to the gear i bought.. thanks for any help..

Re: changing rear gears need a little help
I made the same swap, 4.56 to 3.54 gears.
I found a 3/4 Dodge in a wrecking yard with 3.54 and posi carrier for $50. It had the same axle splines, but different yoke splines and smaller U-joints. An axle shop had a $20 yoke with the correct splines and fit the larger 1350 U-joints. The Dodge boys like the larger 1350 U-joints. Summit sells the yoke, but for a lot more. My 292 loves the 3.54 and cruises comfortably at 70 without screaming or straining. You'll love it

I can't wait for the higher gearing... I never had a truck that was geared so low, I almost thought the tranny was shot.. SCREAMING at 45mph!!! With the new headers, Clifford intake, Holley 4 barrel, pertronics ignition, 2.25" magnaflow exhaust, new shocks and new brakes all around.. (also maybe a power steeing conversion if the 69 I am going to pick tomorrow works out) I cannot even fathom how different this truck is gonna feel when I take her down the road in a few weeks!!!
