Get a tape measure or ruler. Measure across the hub opening to determine whether it is 5.5" or 6.5".

Then place the rim on its back upon a flat surface. Measure from the flat surface to the back of the hub opening. That is the backspacing. You can also stretch a straight edge (ruler, 2x4, whatever) across the back side of the rim from rim lip to rim lip and measure from the rim lip plane to the back of the hub opening. That's the more accurate method to measure backspacing.

6 lug Chevy trucks are 6 on 5.5 inches. If your wheels are factory 4x4 rallys from 73-87, like most guys run, they have about 4.25 inches of backspace and a width of 8 inches.

Jamesi20, you are correct, a 70 model does indeed have 6 lug pattern with 7/16 studs. They went to the larger 1/2 inch studs when they went to 5 lug in 71.
