Taking Rust Pits Off of Chrome

I bought a rear bumper off CL. It had all the brackets, license plate frame, license light, etc..........the only thing is it's pitted (minor) along the top edge of the bumper. I would call them rust specs. The rest of the chrome is perfect.
  • What's the best way to remove the rust specs?
  • How can I discourage it from coming back?

Thanks,
Michael

Might try in an out of way spot some very fine steel wool. Just don't go crazy with it and use lots of soap and water with it. Wax it real good when finished and dried.

Dupont chrome polish works as well as S.O.S. pads.I`ve heard rubbing w/aluminium foil works well, never tried.

Re: Taking Rust Pits Off of Chrome

I bought a 1990 suzuki intruder that sat for 7 years. Chrome looked horrible, I used an sos pad and it made the chrome look brand new

Coca-Cola and a piece of wadded-up aluminum foil. Seriously.

Re: Taking Rust Pits Off of Chrome

I used a mini orbital sander w/velcro on "scotch bright" pad and chrome polish. The pad is less abrasive than steel wool, but with the RPM of the sander + polish it was quick and easy.
