1957 GMC 4 speed trans and V8 bellhousing

I really do not want to sell this, but its wasting space when someone could really use it. This is a very hard to find 1957 GMC 4 speed trans and Pontiac V8 flywheel / bellhousing & clutch assembly out of a 100 series pickup truck. Not only is this super hard to find, this one only has 53,000 original miles and was working perfectly when removed.

Still nice and greasy and bolted to the engine except the trans itself which was separated to make it easier to move around. Everything is in the best possible shape you could ever hope to find - should be correct for 55-59 GMC models w/ Pontiac 288, 316, 347 & 336 engines.

So, this has to be picked up in Arab AL unless you send a shipper after it - not sure what the weight is, but can weigh it if you are sending a truck. Zip is 35016 where its located. First 400.00 dollars takes it - probably worth 600 or more in its condition, but I do need the space so my loss your gain

Re: 1957 GMC 4 speed trans and V8 bellhousing

question, got the trans stuff. I have a 57 GMC safari/camio or what ever the thing is called. Got it with a 282/4 speed in it, not original but want to get it as close to stock as possible. Do you have a motor/bellhousing/maybe font drive accessories?
I have a dealer correct a/c unit and figured out how to power steering it using 63 truck parts. I bought it in pieces and am close to finishing 2 project and want to start gathering parts.
The truck was rigged bad but taken apart. Sheet metal i am handled and bed sides, but a few years ago I tried to buy a 57 GMC parts truck that had what ever ponitac engine and a 4 speed auto trans complete, drove 8 hours and it was sold from under me for fifty more bucks!

Let me know
Steve

Steve, I am not sure what you are asking here really, but it sounds like you want a factory correct 347 Pontiac V8 for your truck, and if so, I am sorry but do not have an extra to sell. 347's are very hard to come by being one year only engines.

OK so the 1955 288, 1956 317, and 1957 347 engines all look pretty much identical; I do have a 56' 317 that is supposed to be a good running engine according to the previous owner, and I do know its not locked up - hasn't been driven in years, but still sitting in the 56 GMC it came in - never removed. These are not the plentiful Chevy engines, so they are considerably rarer and more costly. This 317 is 400.00 if you decide you want to consider it.

Starting from scratch I'd say this is everything you need - shifter handle, trans, bellhousing, flywheel, clutch etc - the clutch, flywheel etc is all still on the engine so no worries. I can crate and palletize if you are not driving here

This specific 347 is not for sale but have a complete minus pullys 1956 Pontiac 316 available if you need one to build, or I have a partial 347 still coupled to a Hydramatic that was part robbed for various odds and ends but is mostly whole.

Aside from these engines, all I have is the manual trans bellhousing for sale. As you have already found, this bellhousing is tough to find, especially coming off a 44K original mileage engine like this one, so its 200 plus whatever shipping costs. I use FedEx and have an account discount so it will be as cheap as its going to be anywhere through them

[QUOTE=Oldmoe518;7781200]How much for just the other motor that parts been robbed off of it .[/QUOTE

Let me go to the bldg and see what is exactly missing from the 347. seems like I had to rob the belly pan off the top under the intake, and the intake etc is all still there of course, but that pan is gone, and not sure what else - maybe the distributor is gone and ? Let me see. The Hydramatic attached to it is just a parts trans as well - someone before me had robbed the oil pan and side cover and maybe the dipstick....

not headed to Carlisle - sorry but these parts might can hitch a ride on a North bound haul by one of my buddies hauling stuff up and back - would be a hit or miss deal where you wait for the right trip to take him headed North near you and he'd bring for a cheaper rate maybe on his way

Re: 1957 GMC 4 speed trans and V8 bellhousing

Still interested in the motor ..... definitely want the bellhousing.....I think I have everything but the block.iam guessing with out checking ....will check in the morning .dose the flywheel and clutch come with the bellhousing ? I have relatives in Lexington VA ..that maybe could be a drop off point ? The motor came from a car , because of the automatic transmission...the truck 347 was a little different compression wise ...i think not sure but the blocks should be the same ? Ok .... Great about the bellhousing ...can't wait to get it !!!just let me know about the motor price wise .(what you want for it )....

Sorry - been so busy at work haven't checked his boards' messages since a couple days ago. So I forgot to look at that 347 and see what we've got there so will do that this evening. I think I paid 400 bucks or something for the engine and trans together if I recall because allegedly the engine ran great and had relatively low miles when pulled - it was the trans being messed up that caused the owner to pull it. So guessing 200 or so would be about right depending on what I find missing - I know I had to rob the distributor off it and that belly pan piece for my 58 GMC's 336 V8 to use

Actually this bellhousing came from a 250 series now that I remember right - a 1 ton in other words. So will be exactly what you need for a 350 series. I never removed the bellhousing so I assume the clutch and all that stuff is in there - you will need that manual trans flywheel too right?
