Quadrajet Accel Pump Issue

Rebuilt a quadrajet. Bowls fill as expected. However, the accelerator pump is not working. Took it apart and filled the pump full. Squirts as expected. Back together, nothing. Seems the fuel is not transferring from the bowl to the pump. How does it pass between the two? Is there perhaps a passage in the bottom of the bowl that is clogged?

I am about to give up and put a holley on it. Shame, I know. But I can tune and make a Holley work.

Re: Quadrajet Accel Pump Issue

Did you change out the check valve?
It looks like a tiny round pellet.
Could be stuck in place.

Where is it located? Under a jet in bottom of bowl?

Re: Quadrajet Accel Pump Issue

Yup!
Drivers side front of the bowl.
Looks like a screw.
IIRC use a flat head screwdriver.

Yeah, I replaced it and cleaned it out. Maybe the passage is not clear. Should be able to squirt some carb cleaner through the hole into the pump hole?

Squirt a BUNCH of carb cleaner in that passage, then blow out with air

Re: Quadrajet Accel Pump Issue

Try soaking the pump in fuel for a day or so. It could also be just plain defective. I went through three new ones a couple of years back before I got one that worked correctly,

Re: Quadrajet Accel Pump Issue

Check for a tear in the pump seal rubber.
Lubricate the pump (and spray in the float bowl) with WD-40 when assembling.
Make sure you put the spring under the pump. I've seen that missing cause this issue.
