Show us your bedside TOOL BOX
. . . .
After spending a few bucks having my tool box restored, I'm wondering if anyone else has restored one. I haven't seen too many restored doors and body panels on this website. If you have one in good shape, you can post a picture of it too. ( Some of us would probably like to see REAL RUSTY ones also !!! ) Here's mine . . . before . . . and after: . . . . Re: Show us your bedside TOOL BOX
Here is a shot of mine on my 72. Even out here in the desert communities that area seams to get a touch of surface rust going on the small area under the box on the outer skin of the bed. I am thinking it is from washing the truck over the years. The whole set up is prestine, but it needs a little TLC to keep that way. Currently I have the lock removed to get rekeyed, so I can lock the door. If I remember I will try some up close pics for you. Cool thread by the way.
R/ Billy

Re: Show us your bedside TOOL BOX
I wonder if this is the same truck that livrat posted?? I saw it at Brother's this year. Nice truck. (just noticed this one has black trim - but also has the same screw holes for mounting the lower side molding. Hmm. Different tires, but that could have been changed.

Re: Show us your bedside TOOL BOX
These are very cool.I especaily like the one in another thread where the fellow cut it down for a shorty.
My uncle had one in a 72 4x4 years ago that he put a glovebox switch in the jam and a licence plate light inside it. wish I had a pic of it.

Here's the one that was cut down for a short bed truck. Looks like it was A LOT OF WORK, but it will really be a conversation starter !!! . . . . |

Re: Show us your bedside TOOL BOX
Here's the rare fiberglass reproduction (before he painted it) I sold to MT Dave for his low-mile Longhorn survivor. Even it had a rusty tool & stowage door. And,the rustfree bedside I also had bought years before:

Re: Show us your bedside TOOL BOX
. . . .
I was just about to add a picture of a 73-up toolbox for "our collection", when I happened to see THIS door on eBay . . . it looks like a "72-down" to me !!! http://www.ebay.com/itm/1973-1974-19...-/150781712412 Look at the drawings from the brochures and other 73-up doors below. The molding isn't the same on the 73 door. But the third picture, the 75 on a trailer, shows the molding in the middle of the door . . . STRANGE !!! The last picture is the door on eBay. . . . . |

Re: Show us your bedside TOOL BOX
Got a 70 custom with the tool box, door is in pretty good shape, hinges..... not so much. Does anyone know where to get new hinges? Some of the restored ones on this thread look to have new ones. Did you have to make them yourself? Any help will be appreciated!

Re: Show us your bedside TOOL BOX
I wish stepsides had something similar, from the factory.
I am such a tool head, I carry so many tools in my car trunk, that I really need a utility bed! I am thinking about mounting a tool box to the passenger side step and a fire extinguisher to the driver's side. I definitely need to move my fuel tank to free up that space for tools and rifles. |

Re: Show us your bedside TOOL BOX
Nice truck. I couldn't help but notice and have to ask, how is it that when the door is closed the brake drum/hub/etc turns black, but when open it turns brown?

Re: Show us your bedside TOOL BOX
IIRC they had all of the trucks drawn like that on the brochures, but the actual trucks were as pictured with the trim in the middle of the door.

Here's a close up of the door on the 75 that's on the trailer (above), it's still different then the one on eBay. Could the difference be Cheyenne and Non-Cheyenne ? . . . . |
