Newer Engines/6 Speed Auto's

Has anybody yet attempted any of the really new drivetrains out there? I know the LS conversions are going on all over the place, but what about one of the new 6 speed auto trans, or an engine from say the last 3-5 years? Just wondered who's got the time/money to try these adventures...

Are you talking about the 6l80 transmissions or later model manuals? From what I understand the 6l80s are capable of more power than they used to be thanks to companies like RPM transmissions and monster, but they are still much more expensive than the old reliable 4l80s.

Yeah, something like that (except the 6L80 is an auto trans, but we won't split hairs!). I'll have to browse the LS section and see what's up. I hear GM/FORD has a joint venture auto trans coming out that will be somewhere around 8 - 10 speeds. Imagine that in an old hunk of iron (once a few get crashed so we can raid the junk yards!).

I know the 6l80 is an auto, I was asking whether you were referring to late model autos or manuals haha

I sell over 100 lsx engine packages a year. several people and doing the six speed auto. the 1500 series truck has the 6L80E six speed auto. the 2500 and 3500 series trucks have the 6L90E six speed auto. there are some threads on this. the transmission computer is inside if the transmission. when you go shopping be sure to get the engine, transmission and computer out of the same vehicle. lots of people have tried putting together mismatched parts and they are having lots of trouble. some transmissions and computers cannot be programmed to other engines. they will go into limp mode and wont pull. some people has spent thousands of dollars buying new wiring and computers to make there stuff work. just be carefull of on what you buy...
