Talking OT - How many IBEW members

How many IBEW members are on this board? What local you from and what you got?
Im out of Lu.280 in Oregon and have a 72 C-20 with a 454,th400 trans and a GearVendors Overdrive - getting it fixed up to haul my travel trailer to the jobs on the road if they ever get going again. Hope everyone can survive until the end of the term of Dumya and we can all go back to work and finish our trucks.
Sorry 68/406 as this thread sounded to good and I beat you to it.:::CB

IBEW is for electricians right?
I am looking into this now, but its seems some local unions want 2-years of algebra first.
Can anyone give me tips on getting started and how to go about being an electrcian, union or not.
thanks!

Ibew

I'm a former member of local 553 in Durham N.C. I now work at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in HVAC. I own (2) 1972 CST Blazers, one is 4x4 purchased in Co. from the orig. owner and driven home to N.C. and the other is 2 wd. I also own a 1976 Chalet Blazer purchased in California from orig. owner with 70,000 miles(fatory pop up camper, they were only built in 1976-77 and less than 2000 were built.) Mine was #23. I also have a 72 C/10 longbed beater and a 72 Gmc longbed part truck. In the past I have had (2) 1972 Suburban's ,one was 2wd (rust free from New Mexico) and the other was 4x4 with barn doors. I really mess the 4x4.

yeah we are sparkies here. all i did was go down to your local hall and find out the times they are accepting apps and see if you meet the requirements, then follow the process. i am not sure if it is different form one local to another but mine was a three step process, app, test, interview.

Phoenix, You need to go down to Gateway community college, It is located at 40st and Washington. They have 3 or 4 different apprenticeship programs that they offer. If you live in Az it is a right to work state, so the union isnt very strong here.

Independant Tile Contractor.....work 4 hours...get paid for 8. I can't stand unions. Sorry guys not flaming you...just hate the way unions work. Another Democratic P.O.S. system IMHO. You wanna make some money...get the flock out of the union.

ChevyDude thanks for the input but again this isnt a thread about feelings about unions - just about any members of this board being an IBEW member - we are all brothers when we are in our too cool trucks.

I hold a Journeyman license from Southaven MS since Jan 2001, went to the union hall in Memphis, and they had over 400 people layed off as of March 2004.

No problem...and You are right. Couldn't help it...as a successful independant I have been harassed by the unions time and time over the years. I'll stay out of this from here on out. Sorry to interject my feelings.

one think i like about IBEW is it is a no strike union. there are two commities one for the contractor and one for the electricians. if we cant agree on a scale or benfits it goes to them and we get what they pass. hints we dont strike. no sure if people know that or not. i also like knowing that in the construction field, i have a retirement package waiting for me when i am done. but i have been made fun of when i take my morning break and leave after working 8 hours, but i am fine with that
