Re: Anybody in the neck of the woods with 6 bangers??

Not in your neck of the woods, but my next project will be a 292. My favorite is the 1970 C-10 and I have had one with every engine from a 283 to a 502. Now that I am older I am wanting to do an old school 6 cylinder. I have a 70 C-10 sitting next to my garage, 292 with a 350 trans and power steering. An old man truck for sure. The rust was free. I am planning a 3 duece 292 using Rochester 2 GC carbs, but not sure if I can find an intake. I might have to modify a two one barrel intake and just run two carbs.

Offenhouser makes a three carb intake.

I think the Offy intakes that except the three carbs are for the 62 and older 6's. Dual carb is all they make for 230-292.

Here's my winter project for my 250.

Offendhouser makes intakes that will fit a 194-230-250-292 single, dual and triple. Clifford also, the 194(late version)-230-250-292 can use the same intake and exhaust.

Re: Anybody in the neck of the woods with 6 bangers??

Hi TJ: If by "Neck of the Woods" being a philosophical state of mind relative to L6s and especially, the 292... then I'm there. Obviously I'm not anywhere near Oregon.
I run a '68 292 L6 in my '68 C/10 Stepside. It's the original engine F0627XAE, on its 1st rebuild, bored .030 over, with Badger pistons, Crane 260H cam, Rhoads lifters, V8 307 intake valves [1.84], hi-volume oil pump, Clifford Research headers, Offenhauser intake, w/ Eddy 1404 500 CFM AFB-type 4 barrel carb and Pertronix Ignitor II ignition. It has turbo muffles on dual exhaust with a crossover tube. I run 235/85R16 tires on 16" rims, since the OEM 17.5" x 5.25" rims gave out with less than 300,000 on them. Rear is a GM 12 Bolt 3.73:1 Eaton Posi.
I have 2 more 292 cores: One ran in the Stepside from 1977 to 2002 racking up 250,000 miles before I had to pull it when the mechanic said it had no action in #3 and #4 cylinders. Since it was bored thirty over in '77, the next rebuild will have to be .040 or .060 [301 CuIn!].
The other core is painted green and the casting numbers say it's a 1962-cast 292 for the '63 model year.
I have a couple of projects on the siding. I need to rebuild my '67 K/10 Suburban, and I have a lot of parts that will comprise a '72 K/5 when assembled in the correct order. For the latter, I have a Rockwell T221/SM465 transmission/transfer case, and the very rare 292-specific, angled L6 crossmember. T

Re: Anybody in the neck of the woods with 6 bangers??

I was going to put in a rebuilt 292 6 cylinder, until I found a 6.2 diesel, but if the diesel dies, I still got the 292 their waiting its turn, they just look cool.

Re: Anybody in the neck of the woods with 6 bangers??

I've found some 292's that are pulling 325 hp on a dyno on youtube and this 292 on the web (not my engine ) I bought a 292 off craigslist for $200.00 and after a little research found installing "HUMPS" into the head works great .http://http://

Re: Anybody in the neck of the woods with 6 bangers??

Lump port head makes a major increase in power. If you do some research on the oem chevy 6 cylinder head you'll know why. lol. Airflow was last on chevys priority for the 6 cylinder head.

HEI, Clifford Intake, Clifford headers, Edelbrock 1405 600 CFM 4 barrel. Dual exhaust with flowmaster 40 series.....runs awesome, getting to be time for the performance overhaul.

Re: Anybody in the neck of the woods with 6 bangers??

In for pics.

I'm planning on rocking out my 250 for this year. While not planning on putting money in performance mods, I'm still going to detail the engine bay. Was just going to de-grease and pressure wash but now I apparently have a antifreeze leak coming from the back of the motor (drips from the bellhousing). So I guess I might pull the motor and see whats wrong. While out, I think I'll paint the engine orange and all accessories, brackets and manifold flat black.
