Starter wiring
Ok, I come to you all for wisdom, once more. I bought an American Autowire engine wiring harness and there is two wires hanging down for the starter, a purple one and a yellow one. I have heard and read a lot of speculation of which goes where. I was wondering if anyone knows which goes where? Anything appreciated ! Thanks

Re: Starter wiring
The yellow should be the bypass if you're running points ignition. With a HEI, it is not used.

Re: Starter wiring
purple is the standard color wire that goes to your neutral safety switch and from there another purple wire goes to the starter selinoid
if you are running a point type ignition , as bigdave160 said the yellow attaches to the positive side of the coil for full 12 volt suply only while cranking , the other white wire that attaches to the positive side of the coil is a resistor wire that usually measures at 9 volts in the key on position Last edited by 67 chevelle; 12-20-2013 at 04:59 PM. |

Re: Starter wiring
I just installed this same exact wiring harness. I have a HEI and just used the purple on the starter. You won't need the yellow of you have an HEI. I was asking myself why did they provide the yellow wire when it is a wire harness just for an HEI truck?
