Bed cross silks question
1970 c10
Long bed being converted to short bed Original wood floor So I bought this truck with the bed sills and wood dismantled. I'm cutting it down to a short bed and Have the long bed silks. I alf have a set of short bed sills for a wood bed from a guy I sold my old bed sides to. Question is: I'm not sure the layout of these sills. Can someone post a pic of their wood short bed sills before the wood was installed? How many sills should I have all together? Any info appreciated. Thanks. Mark Posted via Mobile Device |

You probably won't have any holes where this says but you can still use the measurements.... The first cross sill connects to the second bed strip hole that is 3-1/2 inches back from the front of the bed. The second cross sill connects to the third bed strip hole that is 14-3/4 inches back from the front. The third cross sill attaches to the bed strip hole 60-1/2 inches from the front of the bed, which coincides with the rear of the wheel well. There are two smaller cross members located at the front or beginning of the wheel well and at 48-1/8 inches from the front of the bed. One reinforcement strip is 72” and one is 49-1/2”. Attach these reinforcement strips to the bolts from the bed sides and the wheel well. Mount the 72” at the front of the wheel well and the 49-1/2” reinforcement strip at 48-1/8 inches. Note: The cross sill directly behind the wheel opening will be positioned 1- 1/4" forward when compared to the steel floor location. Install the lock washers and nuts hand tight to hold the sills in place. For areas where there is not a cross sill, install a large 1-1/2" outside diameter washer before lock washer and nut. LockDoc

Re: Bed cross silks question
Pretty sure it's the second sill on a shortie that is slightly important too orientate the correct way if you plan on installing the lower bedside support rods.
Look for the threaded weld nuts near the ends of the sill on the insides. And the hole on the bottom of the bedside just before the beginning of the wheel arch. Without looking I don't recall which way its suppose to face though. On steppers it's more important since the step support won't line up at all with the steps.
