not ready for primer

I’m doing my mechanical work on my truck right now. But as I look my truck over, the rust while minor is starting to be noticeable to me. I’m sure it’s a function of just paying more attention to the truck and not because the rust somehow decided that now was time the time to spread.

I plan on doing the body work next year. My question is should I try to de-rust the spots I can right now and use some rattle can primer on those spot or should I leave it go.

I know that often rust will spread at a certain pace if left alone but when you fuss at the rust that can cause some un-intended consequences.

Any help would be …helpful including tips and tricks
Thanks in advance,
Joe

Re: not ready for primer

If you dont wanna do too much bodywork, just sand the rusty spots down to the metal, and hit it with some primer. At least it will slow the rust. Then you can rattle can it to match.

When I start messin with a rusty spot on my truck, I some how find more bondo and beat up metal from the PO.
