New Carb Intake Cant get engine to start now please help

New Carb Intake Cant get engine to start now please help

I have a chevy 350. I just replaced the QJet carb with a brand new Edelbrock Performer 1406 and a Performer intake. New cap rotor plugs wires. New fuel pump, clear fuel filter.
Put it all back together and I am now trying to start it up and it wont start.
I have fuel, can see it in the filter as well as in the carb.
I have spark. I hooked up a spark tester to the number 1 cylinder plug wire and grounded it and it sparks perfect.
I thought maybe I was 180 out so I poped the cap off did a 180 same thing. Nothing. I put it back where I had it the first time.
I even double checked to make sure I had the firing order right, twice. All wires hooked up in the correct order.
I marked the distributor housing to the hold down so I know its right where it was when I took it out. I even tried advancing and retarding as we cranked it over nothing. Just a pop out of the carb when I went to far.

It just wont start.
Any suggestions???? Im lost. Really no idea what to try next.
I really needed to have it running by tomorrow after noon.
Please help.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Start over and redo the static timing. Bring up number one piston to top dead center and then point the rotor to that plug. Since the dist is in bring up TDC and then see where the rotor is.
I think your problem lies right there. Also when you take off the cap make sure the rotor button is not loose and the pointer on the rotor is tight as well. Good luck

If you see fuel in the carb while cranking it over, there's your problem.
Eddy carbs don't like more than 5 psi fuel pressure or it floods.

Thanks for the replies

geezer: I hope the fuel wasnt due to too much pressure. I pumped the throttle a few times when I was trying to start it so Im hoping thats all that fuel was from.

hugger: I will try that. Tomorrow. Too frustrated with the truck tonight. Need a clear mind and a fresh start in the am.

I will post another reply tomorrow with the results. Fingers crossed.
Thanks again

Thanks again. Started over fresh. Got the #1 cylinder TDC timing marks lined up at zero degrees and put the ignition rotor pointing towards #1 tower on cap.
Turned the key, vroom....
Started right up.

That's awesome you got it figured out.

Something like this seriously needs to become a tech article. It seems every week people have the same issue, and swear up and down they have the timing correct. Low and behold, the timing is almost always wrong.

Sometimes you just have to walk away!!! Good job overcoming the frustration! more than once it (frustration) has led to more problems.
