Blown away by pops ...

Been looking around, taking my time trying to find a good 67-72 driver. I ride my motorcycle more than anything so I don't put a lot of miles on a car. and typically when I'm looking I run most everything by my dad. He's got a good eye and mostly it's fun to talk about ya know. Well, he called me last night and after a short chat said .. "I've been thinking about it a while and why don't you just take my truck, don't have room for it and too many projects right now". My mouth hit the floor. Needless to say, I now have a truck to pamper.

A few minor things to tinker on but this is NICE. Hope I can finish it up and do him proud.

He already knows his wheels tastes and mine are different

Yeah, your gallery2 is locked down.

I see some trucks in a folder there, which one is it?

BTW: +1 for Dad

Re: Blown away by pops ...

My brother did the same thing. My 69 stepper came from him. He called me one night and asked me if I wanted his truck. It floored me. He had never done anything like this before. Little things...but not one of his vehicles.

Pops would be #1 in anyones book. Please just take care of it. (start rant) I don't know how old you are, but I know of so many young guys that have been given vehicles by their parents and they beat the he!! out of it. They get drunk and bang it up, let their friends stand on top of it, jump up and down on the hood, etc.... Sometimes I just want to b!tch slap 'em. (end rant)

Pops is #1 without this. I'm an only child and he's always been my best friend (and my best man in my upcoming wedding). I'm going to finish her up like he would want. Just clean up some areas, relocate the gas tank under the bed, the tailgate is a little bent so I'll get that straightened. Nothing major. It'll look the same except for some mo better wheels and maybe level it out

Re: Blown away by pops ...

sweet truck. that's very cool, my dad did the same thing to me with a 1950 pickup. he would talk about selling it, so i would go clean it up or hide it in my garage for a while so he would forget about it. one day he asks me if i want the truck. i told him i'd love to have it, but i just couldn't do it at the time. he said, well i'm not gonna sell it to you, i'm gonna give it to you. for that price i told him i'd take it.

What I would do to have my 50 back. My brother was the same way. I thought he wanted to sell it to me. The conversation went like this...He asked me if I wanted his truck. I said yes. I asked him how much? He said...that not what I asked you...I asked you if you wanted it. Free? Yes...come get it.

Good looking truck. You ought to keep those rims tucked safely in your garage. There might come a time when you like them - they are pretty cool.

I agree, not really my taste in wheels either, but they look really good on that truck! Find a place to keep them.

Nice truck, awesome dad. Personally I like the rims, I'm sure you pick another good one. What's the yellow one behind it. As said, more pics is always a good thing. We can't help ourselves.

Re: Blown away by pops ...

Excellent looking truck! And even better story behind it.

I'm only 20, and I'm finally starting to realize how truley incredible of a person my dad is (my mom too..but, this is about dad's, haha). There was a time in highschool where I thought he had a warped view on everything, since it was different than mine. But, I grew up, mellowed out, and we get along. We're alot alike, so, thats both a blessing and a curse, haha.

He gave me the first truck I messed with...his old '68 C20. Got it running, used it around the farm, beat the hell out of it. Had some fun, learned alot. Now - I have a greater appreciation for machines, especially the simplicity of old mechanics. We've stood and talked about one of the old Farmalls for hours at times, or looking at the shift linkage of my truck. I dunno. It brings a greater appreciation for past generations. I love my truck, but the memories are priceless when it all gets boiled down.

-ahem-.

sorry.

nice truck again.

-Sam.

Re: Blown away by pops ...

I am glad some of you are having a chance to work with and spend some time with your dad's.

I never did get to know my dad, he drove a big truck and was gone all the time. Then when I got out of high school and went away to the Vietnam Confict, as it is called, I never got a chance to spend any time with him.

I am trying to spend time with my oldest son and grandson's working on these old trucks when we get a chance.

Good looking truck.

That`s awesome of your dad.Of course,he`s just being selfish because it`s not really gone and now you`ll get to work on it .Not that it really needs it.I agree you should save the wheels...or sell them to me.

My dad gave me the 39 chevy coupe. Said he did not have time for it. Well he gets to drive it when he comes down. I always see a smile on his face because he knows it is still in the family.

I don't know what your plans are for the wedding but if I were your dad it would sure make me proud to see you drive away with the new bride in it. It sure looks nice enough for that.

My thoughts exactly. Wedding isn't til March so I have all winter to do the little things she (the truck, not the fiance) needs.

You might be right.. he's gonna let me finish it and then get to drive it.. lol. I can't say that I've ever done that to him though

For now I'm going to stow the wheels in the garage. But I won't be changing them until I get some other things done though
