Bolt on Turbo Kit for LS swapped OBS trucks

Just wanted to let y'all know my truck is currently at Trick Performance getting the hot parts for my turbo setup made and while it is there Rick is going to be using it to come out with a bolt on kit for LS swapped OBS trucks. There will be an A/C and non A/C option on the kits. Here is a link to my build thread.

Re: Bolt on Turbo Kit for LS swapped OBS trucks

I always thought it was funny that the 90's trucks called themselves Old Body Style, when we got trucks going back to the 40's haha.

I've heard good things about some of the trick turbo setups, at least in terms of people using the hotside stuff to start kits/ custom jobs.

Any reason you chose the s400?

Re: Bolt on Turbo Kit for LS swapped OBS trucks

I agree. I don't know who came up with the terminology but I guess that's what the kids call em these days.

I had tricks hot side on my 05 VHO with a 72 mm precision and was really happy with the quality and he has good customer service which is why I went with him again.

As far as going with the s400 I got a really good deal on it and it was speced out and built by Reed at Work Turbochargers. I had a precision before and I just wasn't happy with it. I had problems with it from the get go and precisions customer service is horrible.

Re: Bolt on Turbo Kit for LS swapped OBS trucks

If you don't have a wholesale account, they can be a bit slow to get to you. I dealt with them before and can't complain, but we had a corporate order so they had to ass-kiss at the time.

That being said, I've seen plenty of good things on some of the s-series turbo's...but I always get lose in nomenclature. Is the s400 you have, technically then an S480, since your using the 80mm inducer? Reason being, I always seen the s475's referenced on 5.3/5.7 builds....but in some cases they just say S400.

Re: Bolt on Turbo Kit for LS swapped OBS trucks

I see this is going into a 90's fullsize.... Will this fit a 67-72 truck? I've been looking at building my own out of a setup from a newer trick kit. This might be less of a head ache.

Re: Bolt on Turbo Kit for LS swapped OBS trucks

I'm sure the log would work but the crossover and down pipe would probably have to be modified to fit. Trick has said he wants to come out with a kit for 73-87 and 67-72 trucks with ls swaps. It's going to take someone getting a truck with a swap to him though to get it where it will be a complete bolt on deal.

My trucks now finished yet but im right down the road from wichita falls. I could probably let them borrow it to fab up a kit for our models.

doesnt look like an ac compressor moved up will work with that log manifold..

Re: Bolt on Turbo Kit for LS swapped OBS trucks

He had custom brackets cut for it. He sent me a picture of it yesterday with a t4 magnum turbo bolted to it and it fits fine. It is close but clears the compressor.

Re: Bolt on Turbo Kit for LS swapped OBS trucks

Yeah the kit he is building for me is T6. The T4 kit is going to use his cast stainless manifold. The T6 kit is going to be a fabricated manifold that is kicked over toward the passenger side fender a little more.

I just talked to Rick the other day about a kit for my 68 ls swap, and he said that there are plans down the road.

Re: Bolt on Turbo Kit for LS swapped OBS trucks

Your gonna have the hottest A/C in Tx! lol

*before anyone says thats not how it works, I know that. Though I would be curious about how R134a reacts, since your adding heat near the compressor, meaning the refrigerant has a higher heat load to reject on the condensor.

Re: Bolt on Turbo Kit for LS swapped OBS trucks

Think that would work for a t6 with a kick a tad more outward. Then my sanden compressor would work... Just blanket the turbo and it would be fine....

Re: Bolt on Turbo Kit for LS swapped OBS trucks

The exhaust housing is away from the ac compressor and will have a blanket on it. The lines will be custom made and won't be anywhere near the hot parts so I don't see it being a problem at all. The compressor housing being near the ac compressor won't be an issue.

It's one that Trick had custom cut by lsbrackets.com.

It will come with the ac version of the kit.
