Re: Powerblock

What do you mean by over-rated and who is over-rating it?

Granted.....there is a lot of editing and things don't usually go as easy as it appears but I think the show has come a long ways. I remember when it, or one just like it, was out years ago and it was called "shade tree mechanic" It was a couple of dorks and I think Joe was one of them. It's like any hot rod magazine....you have to take out what you can use and leave the rest behind. Remember, Powerblock is 4 shows and I have picked up a little from each one. Even though I'm not into 4WD's, Extreme 4X4 has great fabricating tips and tricks.

Not really my thing, but I will watch it in the mornings while wakin up with a cup of coffee. But to me it's like watching a 1/2 hour long gear head infomercial...

Re: Powerblock

I definately think they could be better. Especially since each episode is basically an informercial as vectorit said. Still I watch it whenever I am home on the weekends and enjoy the heck out of it.

Prostreet C-10, Yeah I remember back in the 90s when powerblock first started. It was shadetree mechanic (which sucked, and usually was them replacing blades to a riding lawn mower or belts on a 93 buick), My classic car which is now on speed channel, Horse power TV (I guess replaced by muscle car TV), and one other show that I cant remember. I believe this was back when Spike was still TNN.

Re: Powerblock

LOL I loved shade tree lol I think it is was geared to everyday repairs that the normal man would do then a resto. not everyone can tear down a car a re-build it with all the best tools in town. but almost anyone can learn how to change a belt on there DD to help keep costs down.

Re: Powerblock

Now that I think about it.....I think for awhile it was Joe and Chuck. Chuck is the big Chevelle guy that used to be on all the time and now is only on once in a great while. I also think that older guy from "2 guys garage" started it. His name is Sam Memmolo. I even forgot it used to be on "The Nashville Network". It has cars, hunting and country music. Now we have Speed, Outdoor Channel (or VS) and CMT!

Re: Powerblock

Two guys garage!! That was the fourth original powerblock show. Of course it wasn't called powerblock back in the day.

Yeah, good old The Nashville Network. I used to watch those car shows on the weekends and during the work week everyday at 4 pm they would air episodes of The Dukes of Hazard. Other than that the rest of what they aired is pretty similiar to what CMT is today.

Re: Powerblock

Dont take it so serious guys, it is for entertainment purposes. Is it overrated it all depends who you ask. I think it is entertaining while at home in the weekends.

Re: Powerblock

I had a long conversation with one of the hosts from "Muscle Car" after he left the show.He claimed the focus was on selling product rather than showing how to's.One show he did required putting frame connectors in a Challenger(I think) and the producers wanted him to use some commercially available "Mustang" frame connectors.
I had an idea for a show that would really be my cup of tea though. And a sponsor who would love the exposure. What about a JY mods and repairs show with "Pull-A-Part" as sponsor with shows on how to remove parts in the JY easily and repairing older cars useing JY parts.I think the opening series could be a JY crawl where they went in one end of a Pull a part and carried a toolbox and drove out the other end with a creation mostly if not stirctly from JY parts.

Re: Powerblock

If you take it for the "infomercial" that it is, it's ok.
I have watched since the begining and there has been quite a bit of improvment. I think the advertizing part has gotten more intense, but the shows are more "polished" too.
Michelle Spaziano was the first host and Danica Patrick was there for a season before Courtney
They do make an effort to "occasionally" show low-buck projects, but most of it is much the same as the magazines....high dollar "pretty" pictures. Apparently fantasizing and/or hoping is what sells? A guy has to have goals, and how else do you get to see the newest coolest stuff? Probably even more so in a down economy?

Re: Powerblock

My opinion, since you asked. If you don't like it, turn the channel, or turn the TV off and go work on something in the garage.

I like it for it's entertainment value, and watch it every now and again. DO I expect them to go over every nut and bolt on the car...NO, but I do enjoy seeing older cars/trucks being worked on...give me ideas and inspiration at times.

That's funny. My wife walked by the tv as I was watching and said, "Did Courtney do something different with her hair?"
