Here's my spare tire. My dad (PO) thinks it could be the original although he doesn't think it came with white walls when he bought it.

What say you guys?

I don't think so. What I am going on is the lack of cracks that would be there if it were an oe spare. I rebuild wrecks and sometimes I may get a truck in with a spare that has not been used and they are junk normally they have rub marks where they have chaffed against the crossmember and even though they may still have the new tire nobbies on them they are useless unless I use them for rollers around the shop. I've had original tires on mid 70's trailers that I still used. I even took them to tire shops and had them inspected and they said they didn't need replaced, even though they had small cracks in them.

Weather that is original or not I'm not sure. I would think if it was original then it would be severely damaged on the top side where the sun can get to it, and not so much on the bottom where its against the bed.

I don't recall Kelly Tires ever being factory equipment.

OE manufacturers were Goodyear, Firestone or Uniroyal.

Oh ya? Well that's cool to know!

Next summer I'm going to get all new tires but I guess I'lll keep this spare as flats are pretty uncommon these days. *I've only had two in my entire life.*

i saw kelly and cooper tires brand new on the dealer floors inthe 70's

tires were really just put out for bid by the factorys one week everythiong had firestones the next it was kelly than a month of goodyears etc // very few had specific tires dedicated to them except when muscle cars had the stylish performance tires in the package/// factory location had a bigger say in tires than anything about the tires themselves

I have a 1968 Cheverolet Truck Data book and it lists the following tires as available as factory:

Firestone

Uniroyal

General Tire

B.F. Goodrich

Goodyear

My 68 GMC has Sears tires on it installed in 1971, they never loose air, no cracks at all ? I don't drive it on the HWY much so I guess I will keep them for now.

The crap they call rubber that tires are made of now will crack sooner than tires from back then.They say 7 years for this newer crap. The tires that were on my '71 wrecker were still good and never lost air in all the sitting it did since '06. The tires I had bought in '89.My friend has a '40 Harley WLD with the original Firestone "Gum Dipped" tires...no checks at all.
Here's an old tire/wheel combo I bought this summer. How old do you think this is?

That Ward's tire is definitely old, and I don't see any cracks in it.
