What size tires?
I have a '72 that I am removing the 4" lift and 33" tires. The truck has what I think are 15X8 wheels from a '73 up Blazer. Looking for some ideas as to what size tires and brand I need... looking for something that would be good for street driving in all conditions. Like a BF Goodrich All-Terrain for example.
I'm getting too old to hoist my fat ass up in the truck, need something lower. Thanks in advance, I appreciate the help. Mikey |

Re: What size tires?
I've also thought about removing the lift from my truck and going back to stock height tires. When I got my 1970 Jimmy, it had 35x12.5s on it and one of them was plugged. The first time I drove it farther than a couple of miles, the plug material blew out. I couldn't afford to get new 35s, so I called around until I found a place that had a set of used tires, but they only had 33x12.5s, so that's what is on it now.
A few months ago I went to discount tire's website and punched in 1970 GMC Jimmy and it came back with 31x10.5. I went back to the site a few days ago to check it again and it didn't give me a tire size this time, it said "come in". Not sure about what brand came on it stock, however, I've always bought Goodyear Wranglers for my 2000 Jimmy. I haven't bought new tires for the '70 yet, but I was planning on going with either Wranglers or BFGoodrich All Terrains. Sorry for the novel. Hope it helps.

Wouldn't a hoop step be a little easier?

Re: What size tires?
If I was going back to stock height, I'd probably go retro with some steelies and BFG A/Ts in 31/10.50 or smaller.

Re: What size tires?
This is mine at stock height with 31-10.50-15.
But I want a 4" lift with 33" tires! |

Re: What size tires?
31x10.5s were a common upgrade size on stock height Blazers. The originals were not floatation size tires and were much skinnier E78-15B or optional G78-15Bs, of course nobody makes letter size tires anymore.

Re: What size tires?
Hmm... Looking at my SPID, it says G78X15, and looking on the internet, it says that is about 27.8x8.4, which seems to be about 215/75x15 (27.7x8.5).

Re: What size tires?
Yea, but with original tires the trucks look a little dorky by modern perception, sorry but they do. Here is a link to the original brochures:

Re: What size tires?
I agree. I was going to say that that original spec seems a bit tiny on a full size Jimmy. My 2000 Jimmy (the 2nd gen mid-size style) has 235/75x15s on it (28.9x9.3) and they don't look too bad on that truck. I think that if I was going to go smaller on my '70, I would probably go with 31x10.50.

Re: What size tires?
On a 4x4 with stock suspension, I think 31x10.5-15's are just right. If I was buying new wheels, I'd consider going 16" with a narrower 32" tire, possibly 265/75...

Re: What size tires?
They are harder to find but 32x11.50x15 fit perfect with stock suspension. I have been running those since 1995.

Re: What size tires?
Thanks for all the replies, and especially the pics from 62 short step. I ordered a set of BFG All Terrain 32X10.5's yesterday.
