Posi question
When my truck is in park and with the rear axle on stands I can still turn the wheels. The drive shaft doesn't turn but if I push hard enough I can spin the wheels. They both move in the same direction.
Does this seem right or does the posi need rebuilding. Its the clutch type posi. Thoughts or comments?

Re: Posi question
OK heres a question. When in park, with the rear axle on stands, if you turn the wheels by hand, does the driveshaft turn?

Re: Posi question
sorrry, didnt read the post well enough. If you can spin the wheels in park, wheels spin in the same direction and the driveshaft doesnt spin thats wrong, sounds like the ring or pinion is missing teeth.

Re: Posi question
I'm not sure what you got going on, but I know It's not your ring or pinion missing teeth. It wouldn't make it to the gas station with a v8,posi,missing teeth set up. I just went outside and checked mine out, and found that It spins the same in neutral, but opposite in park?

Re: Posi question
how does it act driving down the road is the most important thing
have you ever taken the cover off to inspect conditon, clean and change the gear oil? high quality synthetic fluids are great, i like royal purple its ready to go for posis no additives required

Re: Posi question
I just had a rebuild kit and the posi installed by a shop in town. I haven't had a chance to drive the truck yet as its a fresh build. I'll give the shop a call today and see what they have to say.

Re: Posi question
Things might change when I through the truck on the ground. Maybe I am over analyzing things

Re: Posi question
If it was rebuilt by a shop away from your home? how did you get it home?
If it's in park and the wheels still spin... hope you have a good parking brake. Gary

Re: Posi question
I took the rear end out of the truck and hauled it there, this truck is a fresh build so hasn't seen any miles yet.
We'll see tonight what happens when I get it off the stands

Re: Posi question
If the driveshaft is not turning, and both wheels are turning the same direction there is def a problem, like no ring gear or something.

Re: Posi question
I agree with junkman. like I said last night, my clutch style posi turns opposite tire directions when the driveline can't turn. If they didn't my 72 would probabally be out in the street by morning. If you had posi with no cluth I don't think it would turn at all without the driveline. Good luck man. I'm curious to read what you find out.

Re: Posi question
Very weird, sat the truck down, everything locks up in park as it should. Drove it around the yard and everything seems cool, could not go to far as I have no brakes, front clip or box on it right now. Just backed it on the trailer and its off to the body shop for final assembly!
