Sending Unit Question

Cleaning out my 72 C10 gas tank. I need to get a new sending unit. My question is, I have noticed that the ones I have seen ask if standard or automatic transmission. Just curious why the sending unit matters whether its auto or standard?

Also, truck was originally a standard transmission but is now automatic, but still has high hump in middle with B&M shifter, just in case that matters.

Thanks.

My '71 was born with an I6 and tott.. It has grown into a 454/automatic.. Classic Parts of America is my main source for mail order parts.. They didn't ask "standard or automatic?", when I ordered a new fuel sending unit..
