Power tour 2012?

The power tour is coming about 120 miles from my house, and I was thinking about checking it out. I have never been, and was trying to get more info on what happens at each stop. I was going to try and go to the gateway stop. I have not found any good useful info on the hot rod site. If anyone has any answers could you help me out?

Is is just basically a car show once everyone is at the venue?

Do they have cruise nights anywhere around?

If I wanted to cruise with the bunch, when do they leave out in the morning?

Thanks
Lynn

Yes, if you can go, do it. The stops are generally large "cruise-ins" with corporate displays etc. You will see a wide variety of vehicles. I do wish there was a cut-off year - too many late models for me. Some local sites have events scheduled, this varies with each stop.
.
Be forewarned, the "driver's meetings" in the morning are really not that instructive and you're pretty much on your own to get to the next stop.
.
Also, there is no way on earth to "travel together", except in small groups. This many cars, this many "I'm hungry", this many "I've got to go" stops, the whole group will get very spread out. You just can't keep that many cars together.
.
Still, it's worth a shot if you can spare the time.

Re: Power tour 2012?

Totally worth it.

4000 cars/trucks all trying to get to the same place. Every hotel, gas station, and restaurant turns into a car show between the stops. Something to do once, but once you go you may get hooked, this is my 4th tour.

I agree too many late model cars showing up with their ice cold air conditioning and great gas mileage!

Re: Power tour 2012?

According to the FAQ, there is a $30 fee for a one night entry. I think I am going to check it out too. I would like to make a pass in the big red truck. I don't know if I want to run the whole 1/4 though. 100 mph on 39's may be a little much.
