My latest Grande Sierra 402 find...

He's asking $8500, which everyone here will tell me is too high, so what IS it worth?

The good: original matching 402, original AMFM, Air, Tilt, no rust

The bad: 3/4 ton, leaf springs, longbox

Here's the photo set for it:

(Ok, that last engine photo is from a different car of mine, sorry :-) )

Re: My latest Grande Sierra 402 find...

From what I can see...I am not sure $8500 is that far off. Matching numbers Grande Sierra, BB402, AM-FM, Tilt, AC...

LWB...that is not a killer for me.

Honestly, this tells me it's not worth it at all to you, it's not what you're looking for. You know exactly what you want, I think if you keep looking you'll find it.

Re: My latest Grande Sierra 402 find...

If it isn't what you want, I'd look for another truck. $8500 is a lot to spend on something to fix up the way you want it. Yes the paint looks great....but are you going to leave it that color? Tilts, AM/FM's are desireable, but can be found on ebay and added.

I have to agree... let's answer this question...

What are you looking for in a truck?

71-72 Sierra Grande w/ Air Conditioning.
Automatic trans.
Must be either 4x4 or 2WD-402
Shortbox Fleetside

I plan to do a full body-off restoration, so the condition of the body is important, but paint isn't.

Since its getting so hard to find shortboxes, I've been looking at longboxes as well with the presumption that I'll wind up shortening it myself. In fact, I have still never seen an original shortbox 402 at any price.

Re: My latest Grande Sierra 402 find...

Big blocks were not a factory option on 4WD trucks. They can be swapped in of course.

I know... maybe I wasn't as clear as I could have been, but I meant literally what I said: 4x4 - OR - 2WD402. I know you can't have 4x4-402.

Some days I'm tempted to go LS3 and 4L85E. But the urge to keep stock appearance usually wins out.

Re: My latest Grande Sierra 402 find...

If you parted it out ? Rust free cab $1000 - doors $400 - tilt $250 - Big block $1000 - tran - $200 - front clip $800 - bed $1500 - tailgate $700 - am/fm $350 - interior $750 - big block brackets, pwr str resevoir etc... $500 - I don't think these prices are high end & we're up to $7250 already !

Re: My latest Grande Sierra 402 find...

I'd say it's worth that much.
I'd also say you should keep looking. You'd have a lot of $ into it to make it a c10 short fleet and it wouldn't be a # matching resto. You'd be better off buying some low option shorty and do it up the way you want.

I think you're right on both counts. In my month or so of searching I think I've demonstrated that longbox, 3/4-ton, 402 Sierra Grandes are pretty easy to find, so if I do wind up having to shorten one, I'll be able to find one when I need one. In fact, here's another one today:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/GMC-S...fCarsQ5fTrucks

In the meantime I'll keep searching for a shortbox until I run out of time.

I'm having my shop expanded this summer (I think, anyway) so nowhere to work on it till the fall anyway, no rush.

Thanks for all the help and guidance! I truly do appreciate it.

Re: My latest Grande Sierra 402 find...

davepl just my way of thinking here, why not find a clean gmc shortbox and add the 402 and grande options you want? you talked like you were gonna do a full resto anyways. finding grande and supers that are in good shape will always cost more just for what they are: grande and supers. but if you are wanting a "real" one thats cool too. good luck with your hunt

Re: My latest Grande Sierra 402 find...

take it , now , GMCs were only made in a fraction of the chevys... Love chevys , but a big block with matching numbers? I would opt for the unusual....
