Rear Axle U Bolt

I am going to be doing a complete drum to drum rear end swap ( 3:73 single to 3:08 Posi ) and looking at what is involved i am wondering if anyone sells the u-joint clamp thing that holds the axle to the trailing arm. Maybe the bolts will come off and maybe they wont and if they break I'd like to have new ones sitting ready to use if needed.

Re: Rear Axle U Bolt

Greg, I had new ones made at a truck shop that does suspension repair. My originals weren't too bad, but they were rusty and I just thought that new would be good. I tried NAPA but opted to not order them from LMC or such.

Thanks for the reply. I've never taken a rear end apart before so do the ubolts slide out of the plate thing so if you snap off a bolt the plate is still good?

They are called "U" bolts. When you get the nuts off they should slide out through the plate and trailing arms if they are not rusted tight. You might have to heat the nuts to get them off. As Ray said, any good spring shop should be able to make them for you. If you can't find a spring shop go ask a garage that works on bigger trucks where they get theirs done.
