Front end suspension questions.
I have a 72 parts truck and I want to swap the disc brakes to my 70. The entire crossmember is the easiest way, but my bottom control arms aren't the same. The pass. side has been replaced and appears to be ~1/2" wider at the inside (where it mounts to the crossmember). That's the only difference I can see, but obviously I don't know what I am looking for. Can I use this crossmember or should I just use the spindles and tie rods?

The passenger side isn't mounted the same as the driver side either.

That helps a lot. Next question is how hard is it to use the tie rods off of the 72 and use the center link off my 70?

That whole thread krue still confuses me. I was trying to do it right by putting all new stuff on there, but I might just throw on the drop spindles and go, if I can.

I just did the disc conversion on my 70 GMC...using a 76 doner setup. Dont know if this will help...but I kept the 70 A-Arms...just cause I was lazy and didnt wanna crawl up under the truck....used the 76 spindles with 76 ball joints...upper and lower. Then I put the complete linkage....centerlink, idler arm, and tie rod ends....just as I took it off the doner front end...and it dropped right in...including hooking up to the manual pitman arm....without ANY changes. Granted...I haven't driven or had the front end aligned yet, but dont anticipate any problems.
I will be changing the A-arms in the near future....one for convienence on the disc brake hose hookup...and second, the left side upper A-arm might be slightly bent...reason I say this is the ball joint does NOT sit flush...right side does. Just a 'gut feeling' that it might be too much stress on the 5/16 bolts...as it sits.....IMO....AND...they got the cabinet blaster fixed @ work...so now I can paint them too. *thank GOD for GRAVEYARDS*...lol. I'll also replace the idler arm, and tie rod ends...as well as convert to power steering...as more funds become available...but for now...I feel they'll work just fine. Like I said...the front end went together SO EASILY...I was looking to see just WHAT I missed. Hope this help....and not confuses.... Billy G
