Radiator Shroud Question

My 70 GMC originally had a straight 6 but was converted to 350 by a previous owner and a CU101 radiator was installed. Now with summer comming I would like to install a shroud rather than installing a expensive electric fan setup but can't find a shroud that fits. A shroud from LMC or Brothers is 28 1/4" wide where my radiator is 26 1/4" x 17 " x 2 1/2" ( 4 row ) Custom made ones are super big bucks so a factory shroud would be my first choice and if I have to go electric I've heard with a four row it's best to keep the blade and use a pusher electric in front. Any thoughts or ideas would be helpfull.

Re: Radiator Shroud Question

If I remember from your other post, the radiator is still a 6 cyl radiator. It looks like you have a flex fan on there from the pic, you could try to find a 6 cyl fan shroud and then get a smaller fan from the auto parts store.

Re: Radiator Shroud Question

you could put the factory shroud on and itll work even though its a couple inches smaller, or you could make one out of sheet metal

Re: Radiator Shroud Question

on all my 6 cyl trucks the shroud was the metal pc at the top of the radiator just like what's shown in the picture. I don't think there was a plastic shroud for the 6 cylinder.

Re: Radiator Shroud Question

use the factory 8cyl schroud it will mount up all you need to do is farricate a couple of 11/4 inch wide spacers on each side of it to seal off the airflo // its really an easy no frills fix that done right with some attention to detail wont even be noticable in the finished product

Re: Radiator Shroud Question

You were right..there is no other shroud for the I-6. And you mat be able to fabricate a new shroud if you want something cooler to use.

Hello 70' GMC,

I have the same rad shroud as you on my 70". I took it off a 67', thought it looked cool! I've yet to have a over heating problem. Are you having an over heating problem? If your not I wouldn't sweat it too much. I also have a new rad. These engine compartments are huge and air circulation is great. If your running a proper themostat and a good rad. I think over heating is not a big issue. I have a home made shroud on my 50' and this is something that you could do if you do not like the appearence of your present shroud.

I think yours looks good.

esll.

Re: Radiator Shroud Question

I haven't ever tried it, but it stands to reason that it might work. Try a 67-72 V/8 4X4 fan shroud. The 4X4s engines are located in the 6 cylinder possition from the factory, so that just might be the ticket. Otherwise its fab one up, buy an electric fan set up, or what I would do is to move the engine forward where it would have been located from the factory. WES
