1966 c20 vs. c10
Hi,
I've search but not found any info on this topic. What is the main differences between the two versions? And what issues or problems would I encounter if I choose a c20 instead of c10 if renovating and adding airride, disk brakes etc? br / Thomas Posted via Mobile Device |

C10 1/2 ton vs. C20 3/4 ton. 6 lug vs. 8 lug. most aftermarket stuff is for 1/2 ton trucks unless you use oem stuff. As far as airride it should be the same but im not sure.

No, half ton and three quarter ton parts don't interchage. C 20 trucks have heavy duty upper and lower front control arms. And a big rear axle. C20 trucks are usually a bit cheaper to buy. If you plan on changing the suspension anyway, look for a chevy truck from 1973 to 87 and you can use the whole front crossmember setup. There is some info out there for this change.

c 20 used a the vulcanized rubber "shear" type of rear cab mount, often 1 or both are broken, they can be changed out to the c/10 style though.

Just purchased a c20 1966. Factory AC, big back window, custom cab, straight and complete, but with some rust... Also has 327 v8 with auto. Build sheet is included. Is it only the upper and lower contol arms that are differen in the front?

No. However you may be able to buy the whole setup. Im talking about the upper and lower and the spindle as a set. The crossmember is the same on 1/2 and 3/4 ton. As for the rear axle, well just find a 5 lug setup. Others may chime in on which axle you may want as i havent done research on axles.

Why not leave it a 3/4? Lots cooler than a generic "slammed" half ton, IMO. The late model GM "PYO" wheels look nice if you want aluminum wheels. And there are really a lot of 8 lug aftermarket wheels with the hot-rod 3/4 diesel / four wheel drive thing as big as it is, just do a google search.
Also, a 3/4 or 1 ton with OE stuff will handle and stop pretty nice as it is. I have a '65 C-30 myself as my current daily driver. As OE a '60-66 C-20 has 40% more brake area than a C-10 does. |

Hi, cant get this out of my head.
since i have these two trucks, what is yourcsuggestion on going forward. I really want air bagged, centerline smoothies. I want to keep the big window. Since I'm in Sweden I have issues getting parts. new parts ok over internet, but its always difficult to buy used parts over phone or email in US. (Could really use a c10 friend in Indiana/Michigan for parts.) Option one: Swap 8 vs 6 lug between trucks and buy c10 5 lug konverion. Option two: Re-drill 8 lug to 5 lug? and buy air ride that fits c20. (Going to the worlds largest car meet today in Vasteras Sweden, look at www.bigmeet.com. It is my opinion, that for what it sounds like you are wanting, you would be better to change to the C10 5x5 wheel stud pattern. You really do not need the 8 lug if you are not hauling heavy loads. Also the '66 C20 will likely have a low geared rear differential (high engine rpms at highway speeds). There is basically no aftermarket parts for those differentials. The C10, 12 bolt differentials have many aftermarket parts available.

That will depend on what diameter wheels you use and just how low you want to go. I would definitely use that '85 C10 to convert your C20 to a C10

There are disk brake conversion kits for 8 lug C-20's. I think Performance Online has them. Good looking 8 lug wheels are available. I am fine with mine and don't plan on changing it. 4.10 rear end ratio is OK with me also. I quess it depends on what you want to do with your truck. If I was bagging it then maybe I would switch.

I just want to ask about my truck: Can I swap out the 1/2 ton suspension for a 3/4 ton to my C-10? As an artguy, I would like my truck to resemble the 3/4 ton I had years ago. I'm not going to haul any heavy stuff at all. I would to have 8 lug high profile/narrow wheels.
