Cant align lokar shifter. Any help?

71 chevy. 454. 2wd. Th400 trans. I have the lokar shifter on the stock column. I have it setup now.. Its hard to tell if your in park. If your backin up in reverse you have to hold the dang thing or it falls into neutral.

I called lokar and he made me feel like an idiot. "just adjust it" lol.

Any tips on getting this thing to function SLIGHTLY ok?

Call Lokar back and try it again. I've worked with them in the past they're good guys it's hard to imagine they gave you a bad time. I'm not saying it can't happen, always find out the name of the person you're talking to before your conversation starts. No company wants an unhappy customer.

Ya, the conversation was very short.
I explained my vehicle, and what part i had. And said i cant get it to adjust. Any tricks or tips?
He just was quite for a bit and said, just adjust it....

I asked if he had any other techniques. He said nope.
Will call back.

I put one on my truck and it doesn't stay in park very well, I'm afraid it's going to fall down into neutral one of these times it idling.

Re: Cant align lokar shifter. Any help?

I had to bend mine some to fit my 700R4 which they said is a natural part of the install. (If we are talking about the rod leading to the tranny.)

Re: Cant align lokar shifter. Any help?

I had exact problem with mine until last weekend. Tinker with it. I had to shorten the linkage a tad and move the lever on tranny up a tad. Started to wish I hadn't messed with it until I hopped back in the cab. No more holding for reverse. If it helps set the linkage while both are in R. That's what I did. It was hard to keep the column in R but I set it up there. The indicator is much closer now too. Hope that helps.

Re: Cant align lokar shifter. Any help?

Just adjust it

lyrikz, On yours I would start by disconnecting the shift linkage and put the column and trans in park. When the column is in park the shift lever should fall or spring forward a bit locking it in park. Then with the trans lever at about 8-9 o-clock (Guys with OD may need to go up to 10 o-clock) adjust the rod part of the linkage so its the correct length from the column to the trans lever. You will want to bolt the linkage to the trans lever at about 1"-3/4" from the end, if you don't you will end up with the pointer not lining up with the correct gear on the indicator (as others have seen) or not enough range to your shift lever to get down to 1st. Hope this make sense.
