Where can I buy the oblong washers that are used to secure carpet to the cab to cover my gas tank in my bucket seat interrior?

I don't think they are reproduced but they come up for sale on this board from time to time.

Re: 1972 gas tank carpet hangers

The original oblong "washers" are, in my opinion, expensive if found, totally useless and will eventually damage the carpet. I bought my truck new in 1969 and within 2 years the carpet was tearing through and sagging between the "washers". Unless you are a genuine purist about something no one will ever see, read on...

In 1971, I repaired mine using a wooden yardstick! When I did that part of my restoration in 2013, I used the same basic technique but used a couple pieces of 1/2" or 3/4" wide aluminum bar stock and the original carpet. All you need to do is:
- Bend one end of each piece so each conforms to one side of the back of the cab up to the door jamb.
- Cut the other end of each piece so they butt together somewhere near the center of the cab.
- Hold the pieces up to the back of the cab and mark on the aluminum the locations of the holes in the cab and drill the appropriate size holes.
- Have a helper hold the carpet back side out above the hole locations (I actually taped mine up) then overlay the aluminum pieces against the carpet at the desired location, punch the screws through the aluminum strips and carpet.
- Screw it all to the cab and drape the carpet down over the aluminum strips.

Your carpet will never sag or tear through!

Here's a picture of my original tank carpet as it looks today after 50 years.
