Source for Alternator Brackets
I want to change out my 6 volt generator for a 12 volt one wire alternator. Does anyone know of a bracket source for my 1953 Chevy 216 6cylinder. I know a lot of guys fabricate their own but I just dont have the skills or the time to spend on this relatively small part of my restoration. I just want to get on the road as quickly as possible (Its spring!). Any help would be sincerely appreciated. Thanks

Re: Source for Alternator Brackets
Thanks. Do you have any idea what the difference is between the $60 kit & the $75 kit? Other than $15? There is no picture of $60 kit so you don't know what u r getting.

Re: Source for Alternator Brackets
Try this before you spend a bunch of cash. with the stock generator bracket bolted in place get a 3/8 bolt that is long enough to go through both ends of the bracket and have enough length for a lock washer and a nut.
Slide the bolt in from the front, slide the alternator on the bolt and push the bolt on through and push the alternator up to the front end and check to see if the pulley lines up with the crank pulley. If it works and it should measure the distance between the back of the alternator and the back bracket and make a spacer to fit out of a piece of pipe that will just slide over a 3/8 bolt. You may have to come up with the top bracket to be able to adjust it but it should work and the cost will be under 5.00. That worked great on a 235 that I built for a friend about 30 years ago and should work on the 216. |
