Not yet, but I'm working on a deal and we are close. I'm really good friends with the guy, so I got first dibs on it.

Re: Look What I Found...

If that custom trim is all complete, it's worth more than the rest of the truck

Not that the rest of the truck is in bad shape -- just that it's rare these days.

Nice find!

Yes, the custom trim is all there and complete as you can see in the pics. That exact thing was one of the facts the owner pointed out to me is that all of the trim is there.

Newb question: is it the fact that it's on this particular year truck that it's worth so much or just the fact that it's all there and complete?

Re: Look What I Found...

Joe,

The custom trim package, which included the body-side molding, the sail panels and the white steering wheel was somewhat rare when they were new, and no one is reproducing any of the components of the package.

When someone is restoring a truck, it's common to "upgrade" the packages -- installing period correct options that weren't actually ordered with your truck, which makes these a combination of short supply and high demand.

It's also got the big back window, the chrome front bumper, deluxe heating and the non-painted grill which were also all options, making this a pretty highly optioned truck. 68, is it by any chance an automatic? If so, it would be basically fully loaded.

Yessir, it's an automatic. Thanks for everything you just told me. I didn't know any of that. But, that's why I asked here because I knew someone would enlighten me.

No restoration or extra parts, it's a truck that comes as is. It was still being driven up until about 4 years ago.

Hahahhaha!! Not worried because no one can find this one and if they do, I can guarantee they'll pay a lot more than I'm paying for it. Let's just say this one fell right into my lap and it pays to know people in high places.

I thought you could get all the trim pieces reproduced? Can't you get the trim as a whole kit? Minus sail panels

You guys might be right on that. It's been several years since I was looking at restoring a pickup.

Welp...I think this is where the thread goes wrong and everyone start to hate me. LOL!! Because it's gonna get an aftermarket frame, a LS3 and a 5 speed if I get it. I already got the motor and transmission for it that was gonna go in my 68, but I'll sell the 68 if I get this and the combo will go in it. Not gonna mess with the body though other than rust repair

Re: Look What I Found...

The Aluminum grille is a very rare item. No one reproduces it and to find a NOS, or nice original is next to impossible. I must say that it's sad to here you are going to not going to keep it original. With the original automatic transmission, and all the other things this truck has it is a very rare truck. It even appears to have the factory style tailpipe.
