Timing tape?

So my new engine doesn't have a timing pointer on the timing cover and only has a dash in the balancer (for tdc I presume). I'm going to buy some timing tape, I can just line up the zero with the dash on the balance and put it down right? But for the pointer on the timing cover do i need to find tdc and line it up with the dash on the balancer? or is there something I'm missing

You can buy the tab that bolts to the timing chain cover just make sure you get the right one for the diameter of your balancer

kragen, autozone and others usually have them in the chrome dress up section or I'm sure summit or jegs would have them.

Re: Timing tape?

Ah come on... Just advance it until it pings when you get on it, and back it off a little bit. It'll run like a top!!

Re: Timing tape?

Put a vacuum gauge on it (manifold, or below the butterflies) & then set the timing to the maximum inches of vacuum.
