steering linkages
is there a difference in any of the linkages on a I6 drum truck with manual steering versus a v8 with discs and power steering?

Assuming 2wd, ball joints and tie rod ends. I don't think the drag link is any different, though it may be between 1/2 and 3/4 ton models.
Your steering column will bolt right up at the rag joint with no problems. The V8 ps pump/brackets will not work on and I6, the steering gearbox and pitman arm will.

Are you sure the pump will not fit or just the brackets? I would have assumed the pump would be the same.

i don't have pump or brackets yet,I was told some of the linkages were different, i'm asking this for a friend actually.I haven't made it that far yet!!He is converting from 6 to 8 and from drum to brake and was told the big linkage bar(don't know what it's called)it's the long one,was too small,something about the where it joins up was different sizes.Is there any truth too that.Are there different diameter bars?Thanks for all the help guys

I was referring to the pump and brackets as a unit but you are probably correct that the pumps themselves are interchangeable.
I believe what you are referring to is the drag link, the bar that the pitman and idler arms attache to and the inner tie rods bolt to. The more I think about it the drag link may have a different diameter hole for the disk brake trucks because their inner tie rod ends are larger than the drum inner tie rods. If keeping the drum style drag link, this dilemma can be resolved by buying 67-70 inner tie rods (drum brakes) and 71/72 outer tie rods (disk brakes). Doing this will "marry" the two different linkages. The other alternative is to get a disk brake drag link and going with all 71/72 parts. This works because the hole diameter for the pitman arm does not vary from 67-72. Hope this makes sense and maybe someone else can verify or disprove my thoughts here.
