Wise man say....good deals come to he who waits
Well....you can guess from the photos what I picked up for the bargain price of $150 plus a 3 hour drive to Connecticut. Reportedly needs a first gear synchro and a few miscellaneous items (wiring harness, lock out cable, etc) but should work great with a minimum of fuss. I trans turns over fine and no sign of being seized up. The previous owner bought it awhile back with the intention of using the parts to turn a 4 speed saginaw into an overdrive unit but it sat in his garage for the last 7-8 years collecting dust and he went with a 5 speed. i have been on the lookout for one of these at a dirt cheap price to augment my 4.57 to 4.10 swap on my 72 burb c20 so that i can do long distance highway trips with ease and yet keep that stock 3 on the tree status and look. i was happy to pay what he was asking with that kind of sticker price!
side note: my little 8 by 8 shed is cramped and it was all i could do to clear enough space to fit my "new" trans in there. i literally climbed in and sat on my 72 cb350 to get the pictures. Last edited by capev86; 09-22-2010 at 03:27 PM. |

Sounds to me like you really don't have the room for it. How about you double your money and send it to ME!

Congrats! You scored a good one. IMO, the Sag O/D is the best factory GM transmission you can run if you want to keep a column shift.

Re: Wise man say....good deals come to he who waits
northerngmc....how can i put this gently?.....NO!!!
i spend a lot of time searching craigslist nationally using key words. thats how i found a set of (kinda beat up) blue bow tie hub caps from a '70 3/4 ton in the midwest for 40 bucks. as for Connecticut vs. Maine.....got many hours on the turbo-dodge forums (have an 86 aries wagon) and a few of the top racer/builder gurus into the vintage fwd mopars are down there with you Bill! oh...and thanks again for taking that 4.57 pumpkin off my hands....made room for the transmission. i spent the day with my parents and we rode down in their 97 camry which gets 35mpg. they brought sandwiches and stuff and we had a late lunch at a rest stop on the way back. i will either get a bigger shed sometime soon or build a big shop/garage in a couple years. with 3 vehicles, a vintage camper and 2 motorcycles i need the more indoor space. its all i can do to get my 350 in and out quickly. the silverwing is wedged into the right side and the bench and grandpa's tool box down the left. i have a ton of old hand-me-down tools and parts from various projects crammed in every corner. Re: Wise man say....good deals come to he who waits
Was that the one that was listed on ebay? If not, there was one listed for $169. Here is a link to the complete auction. I was looking into getting it but it was listed as "pick up only" and CA is too far from IA.
link Thanks, John

Re: Wise man say....good deals come to he who waits
ummm......no. i picked mine up in connecticut, not california. and, the one in the ebay listing is an early unit with the 4 bolt side cover on the main unit, not the 7 bolts like mine which has the full synchro first gear.

When one scores a good deal like you did it's sort of like Christmas in summer. Congrats on the score.
