68 with a 305 V-6
I'm looking at a 68 GMC 4x4 with a 305 V-6. what can you guys tell me about the 305? The owner is asking $1100 for it. He said that it currently doesn't have a front ring and pinion gear in it. I'd give that for it..................I've been looking for one just like that. And here in PA it is hard enough finding a decent 4x4, let alone one with a V-6 and 4spd like I want.

I'd hunt around some more. Granted, it is probably a good deal, if it is somewhat solid and ran good. I stole mine for 1800 with a plow, and it is almost rust free (SERIOUSLY)!!! It doesn't look bad from the pics, solid wise, but, the rule of thumb says that everything looks worse up close (at least in Maine we say that ) Its up to you. No front ring gear degrades the price QUICK, IMO.

Funmudder,you stole that truck.Your deal can`t be used for comparison.Heck,I`d pay $5,000 for a truck like that.
So Flaco,That doesn`t sound bad.305s are tough motors.The torque of a V8 and gas mileage,too.It`s a long stroke motor,no king of the hiway.Ring`n`pinions are easily obtainable.Probably run ya`bout $2-300.

I'd want to knock it down a bit needing the gears for the front...but if it runs as good as implied...it may well be worth it.
Even though the body looks like crap, it actually looks to have good sheet metal with minimal rust. The MPG on that thing will be just as bad as any v-8...the GMC V-6 motors were very thirsty. |
