Does anyone know what size the rod/shaft is that runs through the steering wheel for a 65 chevy c10. Its the rod that you bolt the steering wheel down to. Its a stock steering wheel. Thanks

I am not sure what size the shaft is but i have use the shaft from a 71-77 in a 66 steering column.....just have to use the nut from the truck you took it out of....

the solid rod is 9/16ths I believe.....

I just walked out into the shop and measured the one in my truck with a digital caliper. It is .750 or 3/4 inch.

Hey thanks for that info. I am going to try to get a tap and die set this weekend so I can rethread the end that the nut goes on. I stripped mine but I think I can salvage it.

Hmmm. Mine seems to be 1/2 inch. I will have to see if I can rethread it.

oops, yeah that is correct...just checked my drill bit I had to buy for the power steering swap...that is what I get for trying to go by memory

the 3/4" is the diameter of the shaft between the column and gearbox....I realize the threads for the steering wheel are on the same shaft, but that end is machined down to a smaller size...I would guess it is 1/2-13 thread..if it is stripped too bad there might not be enough material there to re-thread it...guess if you had to you could re-thread ti to a 12mm thread and get a new nut...

If you can try to use a thread gauge and measure the thread pitch.

I found 1/2 x 20 die today at oreillys auto parts. Steering wheel is now nice and tight. Thanks for the help everyone.
