My 72 Blazer w/8inch lift 38.5x14.50 Swampers

I finally got pictures of my Blazer to post. This is the start to my resto project. Had to get the thing up off the ground first, always the most important thing to start with, lift and tires. Next was pulling the heater box , controls and heater core out to clean it up and fix the broken controls. I bought a truck cab just for the doors since my top hinges pulled out of mine and cut them to fit the blazer. Glad it had good heater controls cause mine were broke. Got the heater all put back together now and works great. Next thing to do is to replace the break lines, but I cant get the old ones off, can anyone help me on this. Looks like there is a big not on the back side of the frame where the brake line goes through. I cant get it to come apart. It is a pretty solid blazer but does have plenty of rust to fix.

Nice blazer, I will be buying my new 38s and the beggining of next month. Do you have any straight on shots that show how far the tires stick out from the body?

The state troopers Have been harrassing me with my boggers and dont want to be in the same situation with new tires. Fender flares are out of the question!

What width rims are you running?

As for the brake lines there should be a U shaped clip at the bracket that has to be pulled before the lines come out. vice grips may be needed

I am running 10 inch wheels. I will go take a picture for ya in a few minutes. As for the clip on the brake line, I dont see the clip like my other blazer. Looks like a weird nut jobber on there.

Looks good. The truck looks pretty solid. Make sure you don't use the doors to help lift you up into it or ya might have the same problem with the replacement doors.

they must be aftermarket lines then? My stainless braided ones use a nut, It is a 7/8 or a 15/16s if i remember right.

Good looking K5! The lift and tires looks real good. Front of the rear fender is kinda close so keep an eye on that.

Is the nut your working with the type that is made out of thin sheet metal rather than a normal nut style? At least one of my trucks had those but they came off pretty easily.

Exactly Yukon. Mine are hard to get to with the exhaust but I couldnt get them to budge. I thought maybee there was a retainer clip keeping the nut from turnin too but cant see one. I did hit a little the other day on the front of the rear fender. I have blocks and add-a-leafs right now. I wasnt real sure how I wanted to do the lift in the back.I beleive the block move the rearend forward so there is no driveline modifacations. I was thinking about doing the shackle flip in the rear and going with some 4 inch springs. Not sure what I wana do yet with the back. I dont want to wheel the thing, thats what the samurai is for!
Bigbadchev72. I wana say they are 3 1/2 backspacing. They were purchased for my toyota, I dont know if there is a standard for backspacing on those or not. I can try to measure to see.

I think the stance is about perfect, but you could use a Zerorate block from www.offroaddesign.com to lift the rear 1" and it also gives you the option to move the axle back 1".

Might be a great option for you.

You may have to trim the "fang" on the bottom front of the wheel openings. Zerorates should help prevent needing to do that and, as Yukon mentioned, move the wheel back centering it in the wheel opening.

Looks sweet for sure with the 8" lift & big tires, what's next for it?

Cross-over steering so it drives decent without the bump steer?
One ton master cylinder so you have a better chance of stopping?

Sorry but a big lift and big tires shouldn't be the first mods IMO.

Finish the build and make it safe before hitting the black top...please.

I definately hear ya about the lift and tires not being the first thing to put on but in my case, that is what makes me want to get that thing on the road is seeing it setting there with the lift and tires. Just had to get the lift in place first.

I got a 1 ton rear but need a 60 for the front just dont have 1K to spend right now. And the booster, is that a direct bolt on replacement? What year booster? Mods?

Wasnt sure on the cross over though. Bump steer isnt that bad . Will the cross over eliminate all the bump steer? Who is the best outfit to use for the set up. It isnt interchangeble from a 44 to a 60 is it? I dont think it is. Not real familiar with the 60 front, just know I want one.

You might be able to find the D60 for a better price, I just picked up a D60/14BFF for 1K (for the set) out of a CUCV.

You can pick up a 1-ton master/booster for our years, they normally bolt right in. (big improvement in braking)

Cross over works, it's worth the investment.

ANother Question on the 1 ton brake booster, do I need to buy a 1 ton master cylinder also? It is 166.00 for the booster and master cylinder.

Possiably you do, the plunger inside may be different. By plunger I mean the metal push rod. My 1/2 ton Master had a much longer push rod than the 1Ton did so I had to get a matching master. They look almost identical so I too thought I could get away with using the same master. In my case I could not.

Sorry for bringing this back up but I thought Id add my upgrades I have made. Blazer pretty much sat for 2 years after I lifted it . Now Im back to dumping money into the rust bucket. The next thing I upgraded was the steering. I ended up just keeping my stock 12 bolt and dana 44 as I have no plans on wheeling the thing. I purchased the cross over steering kit from Off Road Design. All I can say is wow, best upgrade I have made. Didnt even need to put a steering stabilizer on. Drove dang good with out it but I put one on anyway. Next thing I did was a new performer rpm intake, Holley 4160 vacume secondary carb ( got rid of the junk edelbrock, actually its sitting on my bench lol) , installed a performer rpm cam and lifters, brand new hooker headers, hooker header 2 1/4 mandrel bent exhaust kit and summit racing wanabe flowmaster mufflers. The blazer is running and sounding great . The one thing I havent done yet is to change the booster out for a 1 ton unit, that and 4.56 gears are the next 2 things on my list. I will get some pics up asap. After those 2 things are done I will be putting in new body mounts and start the patch work for the body panels and also get a cage built and tie it into the frame to stiffen the thing up . I was thinking of putting in newer style seat belt system also so I can put car seats in the back. Figured I could tie the shoulder straps into the roll cage.

Love the truck man! Glad to see your back pouring $ in it, haha (it seems never ending when you can see what you want in you head). And have to say the stance is about perfect! I think these trucks look the best at that height!

They were actually on the truck when I bought it. Hated them at first and planned on removing them, but not sure now. They are fiberglass and were designed for a corvette and have quite a bit of bondo to feather them in. I wanted to put a set of Bushwhacker cutouts on but they have been discontinued. May get a set for an F550 and try modify them to work. Here's a pic of how I bought it.....kind of miss the black. Might go back someday.

I like no flares better but Im betting your running 12 inch wheels with those 39.5 bogger, they are 39.5 right ??
